India beat Poland 3-1 in an exciting final of World Hockey League Round 2 at the Major Dhyan Chand Stadium on Sunday night. It was a great match as both of the teams played some exceptional hockey. It was watched and enjoyed by a good crowd.
In the first quarter India made a positive attack within the first 55 seconds of the match which was well saved the Poland Keeper Marica. In 4.19 minutes India earned the first penalty corner but did not convert it into the goal. India kept attacking for the next five minutes and earned another penalty corner but that too went waste. In 11.57 minutes India attacked again that was well saved by the keeper twice and third time the shot went wide of goal post. In 14.40 minutes India took the lead when Deepkia passed to Vandana Katra who scored a goal through an excellent back stick flick shot ending the first quarter 1-0.
In the 2nd quarter Poland earned their first penalty corner of the match. It was hit by striker, passed on to Oriana who scored the goal to equalize at 1-1. Then in the next few minutes Poland played some great hockey putting pressure on the Indian defense but they stood firm to prevent any more goals. In 14.05 minutes India made an attack on goal that was well saved by Marcia the goalkeeper.
In the 3rd quarter Poland made the first aggressive move but the Indian defense stood firm. India made the next move in 6.24 minutes but could not convert the chance. In 10.50 minutes Poland earned the penalty corner but hit went wide off the goal post. Poland earned another penalty corner but again could not convert. India took the lead in 13.20 minutes when Rani Rampal hit a world class reverse flick shot from the “D”. At the end of 3rd quarter India was 2-1.
In the fourth quarter both of the teams played some aggressive hockey. In 7.35 minutes Poland earned a penalty corner but could not succeed. In 12.25 minutes India earned two penalty corners in quick succession but failed both the times o score any goal. In 13.34 minutes Poland earned a penalty corner giving them an opportunity to equalize but they could not convert it into a goal. In 14.10 minutes India’s Saundrya scored the third goal as the shot went into the goal. India won the match by 3-1.
The top scorer of tournament was Vandana Katra with 11 goals. The Junior Player of the tournament was awarded to Rani Rampal. The best player of tournament was Poland captain Rebcca.
