The Indian men’s hockey team started their World Hockey League Semi final campaign with a 3-2 win over France in their first group match in Anterwp, Belgium just few moments ago. It was not a good performance by the Indian team but they hang to a win with a last minute goal from Ramandeep Singh.
In the first quarter France began off well by scoring the goal in the 3rd minute when Oliver Sanchez converted a field goal to give France a 1-0 lead. The Indians tried to attack the French but missed few chances in the first quarter. At the end of first quarter it was 1-0 in favor of France.
In the second quarter India dominated the possession. India missed a golden chance when Ramandeep Singh hit the ball above the post in the 7th minute. India earned their first penalty corner in the 9th minute but was well saved by French goalkeeper. In the 12th minute India earned their second penalty corner and Manpreet converted the penalty corner into a goal to equalize the score at 1-1. Two minutes later India Devandra Walmki scored a field goal from the “D” to give India a 2-1 lead. At the end of second quarter India led 2-1.
In the 3rd quarter France was the dominating team as they were much more attacking. In the 6th minute France earned two penalty corners back to back but were unable to convert. In the 8th minute France attacked one more time but hit the ball outside. In the 9th minute France asked for a review after a dramatic save by Sreejesh but the decision was not changed In the 13th minute France attacked once more but again saved by Sreejesh. But then from one of the many counter attacks Brisac scored a field goal to help France equalize the score at 2-2. At the end of third quarter it was 2-2.
In the 4th quarter both the teams tried to attack. In the 10th minute India earned their 3rd penalty corner but was hit well wide off the goal. India attacked the French goal. In the last 1 minute Sardar Singh passed the ball to Gurmail and Ramandeep Singh smashed into the goal to give India 3-2 lead. At the end India won the match by 3-2.
India play their next match against Poland on 23th June. They start their campaign with a win and would like to improve more in coming matches.
