India beat the defending champions Australia 4-2 in their last league match at the 24th Sultan Azlan Shah tournament at Ipoh, Malaysia just few moments ago. It was a brilliant performance by team India who played some excellent hockey in the match. It was watched by full crowd at the stadium cheering for team India.

In the first quarter India began off to a great start when they won 2 successive penalty corners in the 1st minute itself. India converted the second penalty corner into a goal. The goal scorer was Ragunath, giving India a 1-0 lead. India dominated the play and created chances but were not able to convert the chances into the goal. In the 14th minute Australia scored the equalizer when Daniel Biele entered the crowded D  and pushed to left side of Sreejesh to make 1-1. At the end of first quarter score remained 1-1.

In the second quarter India began well as in the 3rd minute Satbir hit a shot but was well saved by the goalkeeper and rebound hit by Akashdeep failed. In the 6th minute Australia earned their first penalty corner but was not properly stopped by dragflicker as the chance went begging. In the 8th minute the trio of Satbir hit the ball to Uthappa and gives to Nikkin who scores the goal giving India a 2-1 lead. In the 10th minute Australia earned 2nd penalty corner Nichelos Burdgeon hit the shots and Milton goes for rebound was well saved by Sreejesh. At the end of 2nd quarter it was 2-1 in favor of India.

In the third quarter India began off to good start attacking from the first minute. A shot hit by Akashdeep from the top of D was well saved by Australian goalkeeper in the 2nd minute. The next moment a lovely trap by Gurbaj giving it Manpreet who in turn passed on to Nikkin Thimmah as the youngster gave India a 3-1 lead finsihing it calmly. In the 5th minute Australia earned their 3rd penalty corner which was well saved by Sreejesh. In the 9th minute India earned two successive penalty corners but did not convert the chance into goals. India continued to attack Australia and played some aggressive hockey. At the end of 3rd quarter it was 3-1 in favor of India.

In the fourth quarter Australia attacked a lit bit more. In the 4th minute Australia earned their fourth penalty corner but Jermey Hayward flicked it high above the goal post. India played some excellent hockey in the next few minutes. In the 8th minute a deflection of Matt Ghodes from Budgleon’s cross from on top of D helped Australia score the 2nd goal to reduce the deficit. India still lead 2-3. In the 13th minute Australia earned their two successive penalty corners. The second Penalty corner was easily saved by Sreejesh. In the last minute Nikkin Thimmah’s solo run getting past all players and one to one with goalie giving Nikkin a goal and India a famous 4-2 win over defending champions Australia. Nikkin scored a hattrick.

With this win India will play in the bronze medal match tomorrow.
