Ranchi Rays defeated UP Wizards by a slender margin in the Hockey India League match at Astro Turf Stadium at Ranchi today. It was a good performance by UP Wizards but they did not convert chances. Ranchi Rays played some excellent hockey.

In the first quarter, the UP Wizards started off to a great start by gaining more ball possession. They missed a chance in 5th minute. Ranchi earned a penalty corner in 5.35 minutes but was well saved by the defender. Both of teams tried goals but were not able to convert chance. At the end of first quarter it was 0-0.  

In the second quarter Ranchi Rays earned a penalty corner in the 3rd minute. Ashley Jackson took ,the shot from the rebound and converted into a goal to give Ranchi Rays 1-0 lead. In the 6th minute Ranchi Rays missed a chance.

After that, UP Wizards missed a goal in the 7th minute. Again UP Wizards tried a shot but was well saved by Ranchi goalkeeper. In the 14th minute, Ranchi Rays earned a penalty corner but was well saved by the goalkeeper. At the end of 2nd quarter, it was 1-0 in favor of Ranchi Rays.

In the third quarter UP Wizards began off to a positive start when they hit a shot but was well saved by Ranchi goalkeeper again. In the 5th minute UP Wizards again missed a chance. In the 6th minute UP Wizards earned a penalty corner but went wide off the goal post.

The next minute, UP was awarded a penalty corner but was reviewed by Ranchi and said that to start with a bully. In the 11th minute, UP Wizards again tried a goal but was well saved by the defender and lifted off the goal post. In the last few seconds UP Wizards missed again a chance. At the end of third quarter it was 1-0 in favor of Ranchi Rays.

In the fourth quarter, Ranchi began with a penalty corner in 1.26 minute but went wide off the goal post. UP wizards tried goals on Ranchi but their defense was firm and did not concede goals. In the 11th minute Ranchi Rays tried a goal but was not interpreted and in the 12th minute Ranchi Rays tried another goal but did not succeed.

With this win Ranchi Rays has jumped to second place in the points table.
