India struggles but defeat Canada 3-1

India defeats Canada 3-1 in their third match of the Sultan Azlan Shah tournament at Ipoh, Malaysia just a few moments ago. India played some excellent hockey but missed lots of chances. India needs to lift their game in the remainder of the tournament.

In the 2 minute itself, Nikhil Thimmaih converted a long pass from Manpreet, through Ramadeep into a goal for India. In the 5th minute of the second quarter made a good attempt but failed to score a goal.. Very next minute Canada got another chance of attacking the goal, stopped by the goalkeeper and cleared by Mandeep. In the 8th minute, another good move by Manpreet did nit get a backup. In next few seconds, Pereira scored the first goal for Canada from the field pass. In the 12th minute, another Indian effort to score a goal was not successful. In the 13th minute, Canada was awarded a penalty corner for a bizarre reason of goalkeeper coming too far to sideline, that was saved A penalty corner was awarded in 14th minute. That was blocked by the stick of Manpreet. Another penalty corner awarded in the last minute of the 2nd quarter was well saved by the Indian goalkeeper. At half time, it was one goal each. Canadian defense was so strong that India was not able to earn even a single penalty corner.
In the third quarter, 5th minute saw an opportunity going wide for Canada. In the 9th minute, a field pass was deflected wide of goal by Surrender. In the next minute again an opportunity was lost. India earned a penalty corner in the 10th minute was converted into a goal by Harmanpreet. Uttappa lost a very good opportunity of scoring very next minute. Canada earned a penalty in the last 5 seconds that got re-awarded as Indian player obstructed. Fortunately, it was well saved by Indian the goalkeeper.

In the last quarter 4th minute, Sardar Singh lost an one on one opportunity of scoring in the Canadian D. Mandeep’s reverse shot was saved by Canadian goal -keeper in the 7th minute. In the 11 minute, Talvinder scored from the deflection by Canadian goalkeeper of the shot by Nikhil. India earned a corner in the 13th minute of the last quarter, shot by Manpreet was well saved by Canadian goalkeeper. India came strong in the last quarter and finally won the match 3-1.

India play their next match against arch-rivals Pakistan on 12th April.
