India lost their last league match to Philippines 65-99 of the second round at Changsha Social Work College’s Gymnasium.
The Indian team started the first quarter on a positive note as they lead 9-7 in the first four minutes of the quarter. India took a 5 point lead, but Philippines made a great comeback as they reduced the margin. At the end of first quarter, India led 17-16.
In the second quarter, India started on an aggressive note but Phillinapnes equaled the score at 24-24. After that Philippians team made some aggressive moves scoring 3 and 2 points. At the end of second quarter, Philippines scored 26 as against 19 by India. Philippines led 42-36.
In the third quarter, India started well scoring 2, but Philippines scored some excellent baskets and did not allow India to come back into the match. Philippines scored 23 as against India 14. The Philippines team led 65-50 at the end of third quarter.
In the last quarter, India began well scoring 5 baskets but Philippines dominated the game as they scored 34 as against 15 by India. Philippines won the match by 99-65. The top scorers for India were Bhrigunvishi with 21 points and Amyroit Singh with the same. Philippines top scorers were Romeo with 20 points.
Despite losing this match, India has qualified for the quarter-finals for the first time in 12 years. It is a great news for Indian basketball.
