Five Time World Champion and 2014 Asian Games Gold Medalist MC Mary Kom has decided to pull out of the 2014 World Championships and is looking forward to concentrate on the 2016 Rio de Janerio Olympics. Mary Kom said that there is very little at stake and clarified that she won’t be travelling to Jeju Island in South Korea for the event from November 13-25.

Instead, Pinki Rani Jangra, who represented India in the 2014 Commonwealth Games ahead of Mary Kom will represent in the World Championships.

According to some sources closes to MC Mary Kom, she is following a game plan similar to the one being adopted by wrestler Sushil Kumar. It also revealed that Mary Kom has decided to be picky and choosy about the events she enters herself into.

“Mary Kom has decided not to participate in every competition that takes place. Given her age she wants to participate in selective tournaments only to increase her career span. Boxing is very demanding. Not only does it require mental toughness, but physical endurance as well. This is the prime reason she has decided to skip the world championships as there is not even an Olympic spot at stake. After an exhausting and successful 2014 Incheon Asian Games, she decided to take a break” the source said.

Currently, MC Mary Kom is aiming to fly the Indian Tri Colour high at the Rio de Janerio Games. Mary Kom had won a Bronze Medal in the 2012 London Olympics.
