England dominated the Day 1 of Commonwealth Games 2014 being held at Glasgow. They ended their run of day 1 with 17 medals in their bag, from the 65 medals up for grab on Day 1. India also did well to stay in the competition. With 7 medals in the kitty, India is currently ranked 4th in the list. In the previous Commonwealth Games held at New Delhi in 2010 India managed to end on 2nd position hence the hopes would be even higher this time round.

India won 2 Gold, 3 Silver and 2 Bronze medals on the Day  of the games. Both the gold medals came of the weight lifting in the 56 kg category as Sukhen Dey and by Sanjita Khumukcham in women’s 48kg category.

Here is the current medals tally at CWG 2014 –

Rank Nation Gold Silver Bronze Total

3 Scotland 4 3 3 10

With shooting beginning from Day 2, India’s hopes will be very high to bag few more medals on Day 2 as well and try to get on top from the beginning itself. This year India has come in with a contingent of 215 members.
