Indian boxers Vikas Krishnan and Manoj Kumar have qualified for the Rio Olympics in their respective weight categories. They made it to Rio Olympics after reaching the semi-finals of the International Boxing Association world qualifying tournament held in Baku.
Vikas Krishnan qualified in 75 Kg weight category. He defeated Italian player in the quarter finals and then take on Turkmenistan player in the semi-finals. Vikas will take on Pat of England in the semi-finals. Manoj Kumar secured a Rio Olympics in the 64 KG weight category. He beat Korean player by 3-0 in the quarterfinals and will face Pat in the semi-finals.
It was great news for Indian boxing as three boxers have qualified for Rio Olympics. Shiva Thapa, Manoj Kumar and Vikas Krishnan have made the cut for Rio Olympics. Shiva Thapa secured a place in Rio Olympics after the Asian qualifiers in March. He has secured a place in 56 Kg weight category.
“Given the terrible state in which boxing is right now, I am relieved to have qualified for the Games. There was a lot of pressure on the team which is competing here and I am glad that I came good,” Manoj
The Indian fans will be hoping for good performances in Rio Olympics and hopefully a medal for the country.
