Indian archer Atanu Das qualified for the round of 32 as he finished at the 5th position just seven points behind the second-placed Ellison Brady of USA in the individual ranking round at Sambodromo, Brazil. Atanu is the only Indian archer to qualify for Olympic, so he contested in only individual section and did and outstanding job to qualify for next round.
At the end of the ranking round, Atanu scored 683 points after the end of 12 rounds.
Meanwhile, at the top of the list is Kim Woojin of South Korea with 700 points which is a world record as he broke the previous record held by his fellow countryman Dong Hyun who scored 699 points London Olympics 2012 which was both OR an GR at the time.
Atanu Das is supported by the Olympic Gold Quest programme of the Indian government.
He made his international debut in 2008. In 2013 World Cup Mixed Team event organized in Colombia Atanu has won a bronze medal along with Deepika Kumari.
He currently works with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited in Kolkata.
The 24 year Bengal boy is a part of India’s biggest ever Olympic contingent which is comprised of 118 athletes.
He started his career at the age of 14 under the coaching of Mithu Da. In 2008, Atanu moved to Tata Archery Academy where he was trained under the coaching of Korean coach Lim Chae Wong.
