Defending champions Real Madrid came from a goal down to beat Napoli 3-1 to take command of the last 16 tie.

Zinedine Zidane’s men began emphatically with Karim Benzema testing Pepe Reina in the very first minute but it was the visitors who drew the first blood in the tie. Lorenzo Insigne put Napoli in front when he raced onto a perfect through-ball by Marek Hamsik before spotting goalkeeper Keylor Navas way off his line and burying a low shot into the far post. Real Madrid soon responded with Benzema missing with a weak header before he scored the equaliser in the 18th minute. Nine minutes later, Cristiano Ronaldo had a golden opportunity to double the lead after he was sent clear by Luka Modric but he missed that chance. Five minutes later, Marek Hamsik hit wide of the post as the half ended 1-1.

The Los Blancos then scored two goals inside five minutes to take command of the tie. Toni Kroos fired the home team to the lead after brilliantly converting an inch-perfect pass from Ronaldo before Casemiro scored the third with a long-ranger.

Here is how Twitter reacted to the match:

An avid sports lover, i always wanted to pursue a career in football. But just like the millions out there i did not put in the hard work needed to achieve my dream and now i have become a fan instead of the player. Anyway, writing for sports has kept me closer to this field. One more thing, yours sincerely is a die-hard Liverpool fan.
    You will never walk alone.
