Arsenal’s hopes of securing a top-four finish suffered a huge blow after they lost 3-1 at West Bromwich Albion.

With pressure piling on Arsene Wenger after some dismal results in recent months, the Gunners were in dire need of making a good start. However, it was the home team which drew the first blood when Craig Dawson rose highest to head Nacer Chadli’s corner beyond Petr Cech after just 12 minutes. Arsene Wenger’s men responded soon when Alexis Sanchez capitalised on Chadli’s mistake and found the back of the net from a Granit Xhaka pass.

Saloman Rondon went close to scoring but pulled a shot wide before Petr Cech did well to turn Darren Fletcher’s half-volley wide on 35 minutes. That was Cech’s last contribution to the game as he was replaced by David Ospine after suffering a leg injury.

The home team again started in a dominant fashion after the restart with Rondon heading wide just six minutes after the break. The Baggies were finally rewarded for their good performance when substitute Hal Robson-Kanu poked home after Ospina failed to collect a cross. 10 minutes later, Danny Welbeck came close to hitting the equaliser but was denied by the crossbar. West Brom finally wrapped up the victory fifteen minutes from time when Dawson found the back of the net with a headed effort.

The defeat is now Arsenal’s fourth in last five Premier League games and has left them five points shy of  fourth-placed Liverpool.

Here is how Twitter reacted to the match:

An avid sports lover, i always wanted to pursue a career in football. But just like the millions out there i did not put in the hard work needed to achieve my dream and now i have become a fan instead of the player. Anyway, writing for sports has kept me closer to this field. One more thing, yours sincerely is a die-hard Liverpool fan.
    You will never walk alone.
