A nation that is obsessed with cricket remained awake the whole night to witness its daughter create history far away in Brazil and after watching her performance one can say that every Indian slept peacefully.
It was a case of so close yet so far for gymnast Dipa karmakar. The wonder girl from Tripura created history a week ago after becoming the first Indian woman to qualify for the finals. With the whole country watching her performance, she did not disappoint and finished fourth in her discipline.
The 23-year old, who is now famous all over the world for her risky ‘Produnova’ vault, scored an average of 15.066 points, a mere 0.15 less than the eventual bronze winner Giulia Steingruber (15.216) of Switzerland. The gold went to America’s Simone Biles (15.966) while reigning vault world champion Maria Paseka of Russia got the silver with an average of 15.253 points.

Dipa might have etched her name in the history books but it seems she is yet not satisfied with her performance and surprisingly took to Twitter to apologise to the whole nation for not winning a medal.
But the whole nation knows that she has given us a lot to cheer about and Gautam Gambhir’s reply to her tweet shows every Indian’s sentiment right now.
Every once in a while, someone inspires us to be more. Today, that is you Dipa. Well done. We stand with you. #Respect
