The Indian women’s hockey team draw 2-2 in their first group match at Rio just finished a few minutes ago. It was an excellent performance by the Indian women team who fought back after conceding 2 goals in the first two-quarters. After that, the Indian women’s hockey dominated and scored 2 goals.

In the first quarter, the Japanese team started out on an aggressive note with 2 good chances in the 3rd minute but could not convert chances into goals. In the 7th minute, Preeti Dubey missed a golden chance of scoring a goal. In the next minute, Poonam Rani missed a chance of scoring a goal. The Indian team dominated the next few minutes. In the last few seconds of first quarter, Japan earned a penalty corner and Nishikori scored the goal to give Japan 1-0 lead. At the end of first quarter Japan led 1-0.

In the second quarter , Japan began on a strong note. In the 2nd minute, Savita made an excellent save from Japan striker. The Japanese team dominated the game and did not allow the Indian team to comeback into the match. In the 13th minute, a deflection from Nakashima gave Japan 2-0 lead. At the end of 2nd quarter, Japan led 2-0.

The third quarter began well for the Indian team as they earned a penalty corner in the first minute itself. Rani Rampal scored a brilliant goal to reduce the gap to 1-2. In the 3rd minute Japan earned a penalty corner but the shot went wide. The Indian team dominated the next few minutes. In the 9th minute India earned another penalty corner but could not convert. In the 10th minute, India earned another penalty corner and the goal was scored by Minz. The Japan team reviewed but the decision stood as a goal to equal the score at 2-2. In the last few seconds, Japan earned another penalty but Indian goalkeeper saved it with the right stick.

The fourth quarter began off well for the Indian team. In the 3rd minute, the Indian team was not able to convert 3 back to back chances. In the 10th minute, the Indian team earned another penalty corner but it was saved easily by Japan goalkeeper. In the 11thand 12th minute the Indian goalkeeper made brilliant saves. In the 15th minute, the Indian team missed a golden chance to win the match. The match ended in a 2-2 draw.

India will next play Great Britain on 9th August.
