A few days after an awkward landing ended French Gymnast Samir Ait Said’s Olympic journey another athlete had an unfortunate end to his Olympics journey.
Armenia’s weightlifter Andranik Karapetyan, who was one of the favourites in the men’s 77 kg weightlifting event, was in second place of the event when he suffered a horrific arm injury that left him screaming in pain.
The 20-year old, who is also the reigning European champion in this discipline, was attempting a 195kg clean and jerk, heaving the barbell over his head, when his left forearm appeared to snap back behind his head. Karapetyan stumbled off the stage in pain, and one of the trainers who rushed to help him could not even look at his elbow as he was seen holding his own head in his hands.
