India won the Fed Cup Asia Oceania Group 2 by beating Philippines 2-1 at Hyderabad just few moments ago. It was a great performance by team India who played some great tennis throughout the week and Captain Saina Mirza had to get to field in the double match against Philippines. With this win India is promoted to group 1 of Fed Cup in 2016.   

Ms Prarthana Thombare won first singles match with ease against Ms. Peterimonia 6-3, 6-1. It was almost one sided match as Prarthana proved too strong for the opponent. The second match between Ankita and Catherina Lenhert was expected to go on similar line as first one, but it turned out to be a real treat for spectators. But apart from the first set that was won by Ankita fairly easily; it swung from one side to another ans some amazing tennis was provided by both the players. The match went for almost 3 hours and finally Lenhert won the match.

To keep Indian chance alive to win the Federation cup captain Sania Mirza decided to pair up with Prarthana. The opponents Philippine women Ms Catherina Lehnhert and Petrimonia took first 3 games easily holding their services and breaking Prarthana’s service giving some anxious moments for the crowd. It was only in the fourth game, Sania Mirza and Thombare gave some fight to win and make it 1-3. Indian pair broke opponent’s service of fifth game and came back in the match making it 2-3. In the 6th game Sania held her serve and equaled 3-3. The grueling 7th match was again won by Indian pair breaking their service making it 4-3 in India’s favor. Eighth game served by Saina was won easily by Indian pair making the set lead 5-3. Indian pair won the 9th game breaking their service again though it was extended twice after dues and win the set 6-3

India began second set holding Sania’s serve in first game and breaking Philippines service in next game. Prarthana also held her service without giving any points to give 3-0 lead. Prarthana had improved her service and game by now giving good support to Saina. In fourth game Indian pair failed to break the service after a sea saw battle thrice after reaching dues. In the fifth game Saina held her serve without giving a point to take lead of 4-1. In sixth game Philippine’s pair held their service too make it 2-4. Prarthana also held her next serve easily to give 5-2 lead. Philippines pair held their service to make it 3-5. Last game of the set served by Saina was also won the game 6-3, the set and the Cup for India.

With this win India is promoted to group 1 of Fed Cup in 2016.
