Last night, Indian ace Leander Paes won the 2015 Wimbledon mixed doubles title with Martina Hingis. This is Paes’ 16th Grand Slam title overall and his eighth mixed doubles title. After the win, Paes dedicated the win to his homeland India and insisted that he takes it seriously when he represents his country.

He said, This trophy is for India. To represent the flag and my country is something I take very seriously.

The 43 year old veteran is one of the best doubles players the world has ever seen. HE first came into the news for winning the 1990 boys single title at Wimbledon. While comparing that victory to winning the mixed doubles as a 43 year old, he said Winning the junior title at 1990 was really special. Winning and getting old go together.

He also hailed his partner Martina Hingis’ work ethic after she managed to concentrate on the Mixed Doubles finals after playing a physically and a mentally draining women’s doubles finals with his fellow Indian Sania Mirza, which the Indo-Swiss pair eventually won.

I feel really special being on the court with Martina; she had an emotionally and physically-draining women’s doubles final with Sania. She had a tough 24 hours and still came back and took the time to discuss our match. She tried to go to bed early and then came out early for warm-ups. That for me is thoroughly professional.

This is Leander’s second Mixed Doubles title of the year along with Hingis as the duo had already been crowned the 2015 Australian Open Champs.
