Sania Mirza and Martina Hignis beat Dellcaquca and Shvedova in the quarter finals of women’s doubles in straight sets 7-5, 6-3 at the Wimbledon last night to make their way in to the semi-finals of Wimbledon 2015. It was a dominating performance by the top seed in the tournament.
In the first set both pairs started off steadily; holding on their serve. In the 5th game Sania hold her serve to give the top seed a 3-2 lead. The next game Sania Mirza-Martina Hignis broke the service of Dellcaquca to give the top seed a 4-2 lead. From 2-4 down Dellcaquca/ Shvedova came back to win the next two games to make it 4-4. Both of the pairs held their service to make it 5-5. Martina Hignis hold their service to make it 6-5 in favor of top seed. Sania Mirza/ Martina Hignis broke the opponent’s serve and took the first set 7-5.
In the second set both pairs got off to a great start holding their serves. Both of pairs hold their serve till 3-2 in favor of top seed. Shevdova/ Dellcaqua hold their serve to equal the things at 3-3. Saina Mirza/ Hignis took a 4-3 lead. Saina Mirza/ Martina Hignis broke the service of Dellcaqua to make it 5-3 in favor top seed Sania Mirza/ Martina Hignis. The next game they hold their serve to take the second set and game 6-3.
The duo of Mirza and Hingis will face Raquel Kops Jones and Abigail Spears in the semi finals.
