Our Featured Writer Suneeth Nair writes his views on the high voltage final coming up this Sunday SEMIFINAL TIES: SERENA WILLIAMS TRASHES LI NA 6-0, 6-3: serena World No.1 Serena William was way too much to handle for the Chinese fifth seed as the US Open. The defending champion steam rolled over her opponent with ease as she made her presence felt in front of the home crowd at Arthur Ashe Stadium. With crowd behind her back, Serena was the overwhelming favourite in the match and she didn’t disappoint. Li Na, who just won one of her previous 10 ties with Serena, took time to find her bearing right but by the time Serena secured her first game 6-0. Williams started the proceeding with some fiery service game and cross court winners. Soon she broke Li Na thrice to take the first game. The No.6 Chinese looked out of sorts as the first set ended in 29 minutes. Li Na wasn’t ready to go down without giving her opponent a fight. She stretched Serena in her service game before an unforced error helped William go 1-0 up in the second set. Li Na then took the next game for love and held the serve for the first time in the match. Then to everyone’s surprise Li Na broke Serena to take 1-2 lead in the second set. Just when it looked as if Serena will be in trouble, she rose to the occasion and broke back in the very next game followed by a brilliant display of service game to take it 3-2. From then on Serena steamroller started and crushed Li Na as she took the second Game and along with it the Match. Serena  will be looking for her fifth home Slam Title when she takes on the World No.2 Victoria Azarenka on Sunday. GAME, SET AND MATCH FOR AZARENKA: aza The second seeded Azarenka earned her second consecutive final appearance at the US Open when she won against Pennetta 6-4, 6-2. Victoria broke into a dance as soon as she won the match. “I’m so excited, just like the song! It has been a long road to the final but it is an amazing feeling to be out here and fighting for the trophy. I will have to give it all my heart, all my body and all my mind in the final because it will be against a world class opponent.” She said after her match. Azarenka and her racquet were not on the same hymn sheet in the opening set as she squandered five set points. But the World No.2 eventually held on to take the first set 6-4. The first set had lot of interesting moments as both players broke and struggled to held on to their serve. Azarenka was just luck enough to win a crucial winner and hang on to the set. Clearly Victoria had a lucky day as her opponent couldn’t capitalize on the 18 unforced errors of hers in the first set. Second game saw a different Azarenka play the game as she broke her opponent twice to take an early 4-1 lead over her opponent. Some erratic game from Flavia saw the No.2 close on the second game fast enough to win 6-2 in 39 minutes. PREDICTIONS FOR FINAL: A clash between the World No.1 & 2 should be exciting to say the least. Last year when the pair met at the Finals of the Flushing Meadows, The Title went to the home favourite Serena. The score line was 6-2, 2-6, 7-5 in favour of Williams who won her fourth US Open Title. Serna has never defended her US Open Title and the 31 year old will be looking to change the stats. Azarenka will look to take revenge of her last year loss. The Sunday match will be a mouth watering clash that could go down the history. Will Serena defend her title? Or will Azarenka be able to take her revenge? We will have to wait to see who will get to kiss the silver trophy this year.
