Day 6 of the Wimbledon featured top seeds Roger Federer, Andy Murray and Thomas Berdych in Men’s category while Petra Kvitova , Caroline Wozniacki in women’s category.
Let’s look at the results of day 6 action at the Wimbledon:
1. Roger Federer vs Sam Groth :
Roger Federer who has been flawless right from day 1 of the Wimbledon just had another great day at the office by defeating the Aussie Sam Groth in four sets 6-4,6-4,6-7(5),6-2.
Federer hit 17 aces to Groth’s 21, and was impressive with his groundstrokes making 56 winners and just 8 unforced errors. Federer was more impressive at the net winning 24 of the 31 points. However, for Sam Groth he managed to take off a set from the Swiss which he could cherish lot. Federer is successfully through to the second week who is chasing his record 8th Wimbledon title.
2. Jelena Jankovic vs Petra Kvitova:
Jelena Jankovic caused the major upset at the Wimbledon today by defeating the defending champion Petra Kvitova in three sets 3-6,7-5,6-4. Kvitova had a blistering start to the match by taking the opening set and was up a break early. Being down 4-2 in the second set things looked very grim for the Serbian but she managed to make one hell of a comeback from the jaws of defeat and turned things around by taking the second set. Momentum shifted in Jankovic’s way and she managed to beat the defending champion 6-4 in the final set.
3. Thomas Berdych vs Pablo Andujar:
Berdych advances to the fourth round by defeating Andujar in four sets 4-6,6-0,6-3,7-6(3). Berdych who had a slow start by dropping the set managed to turn things around and bageled the Spaniard in the second set and then continued the solid momentum he gained throughout the match and ended in the winning side. Berdych managed to hit 14 aces and and 58 winners and was victorious. Berdych was mighty impressive at the net winning 23 of the 30 points. The Czech is safely into the most important week at the Wimbledon.
4. Caroline Wozniacki vs Camila Giorgi:
Wozniacki, who is seeded 5 had a smooth run so far in her Wimbledon campaign and she is through to the second week quite comfortably defeating Giorgi in straight sets 6-2,6-2. Woznacki, was in total command throughout the match making just 3 unforced errors. Wozniacki managed to convert 5 of her 11 break points and managed to make 38 of the 52 first serves in. It was a day to forget for the Italian Giorgi as she was outplayed totally in every aspect of the game.
5. Andy Murray vs Andreas Seppi:
Andy Murray advances into the fourth round by defeating the Italian Andreas Seppi in four sets 6-2,6-2,1-6,6-1. The no 3 seed is into the all important week who is looking for his second Wimbledon title. Murray had a great start to the match taking the first two sets comfortably and the momentum shifted in Seppi’s way who won the set 6-1. However, Murray was strong enough to comeback in the 4th and booked his place in the fourth round. Murray hit 10 aces and 32 winners and he managed to convert 7 of his 12 break points. Murray, who is one the favourites is safely through to the second week of the tournament and he will face the big serving creation Ivo Karlovic in the fourth round
The first week of the Wimbledon comes to an end with Nadal bowing out in the second round which is the only upset in the men’s tennis and many top seeds from Women’s tennis have fallen including the defending champion. Tomorrow will be a rest day at the Wimbledon and we are into the most important second week from Monday.
