Best of MS Dhoni

The Indian captain MS Dhoni has added another feather to his cap in the ongoing match between India and Zimbabwe at Harare. The moment he caught Elton Chigumbura off Jasprit Bumrah he entered his name in the record books as it was his 350th dismissal of his one-day international career. Dhoni’s 350 dismissals came in his 278th match. Of the 350 dismissals he has effected till now, 261 are caught while 89 is stumpings.

Dhoni is currently on the fourth spot in the terms of dismissals by a wicketkeeper in ODI’s. Kumar Sangakkara, the
Sri Lankan wicket keeper tops the list with 482 dismissals in 404 matches. Adam Gilchrist with 472 dismissals in on the second position, whereas Mark Boucher with 424 dismissals is third on the list. To take a note all these wickets keepers have retired and Dhoni has a chance to break the record of all of the three mentioned above as Dhoni has already expressed his desire to play till the World Cup 2019.

Talking of Indian wickets keepers Dhoni is obviously the most successful wicket-keeper followed by Nayan Mongia with 154 dismissals. Kiran More with 90dismissals is on the third rank in this list.
Currently, Indian team is playing an ODI and T20 series against Zimbabwe team. The Indian team has already white washed the hosts in the ODI’s and same kind of results are expected in the T20 series too.
Before the start of the series, Dhoni needed 82 runs to cross the 9000 runs mark in ODI’s and still he needs the same number of runs due to lack of opportunity. Now Dhoni has to wait for a few months to enter the record books.

This series was a cake walk for the Indian batsmen. But a good thing to take from this tour was that it has been the first ODI series win for India since the October 2014 under Dhoni. Indian team last won an ODI series under Dhoni in 2014 against West Indies. The tour was marred with controversies as West Indies players decided to abandon the tour.

After the tour, Indian team played ODI series against the Sri Lankan team, but Dhoni was rested for the tour. Under Dhoni, Indian team lost the home ODI series and T20 series against the South African team. In the next coming months Indian team is scheduled to play only 11 white ball matches so Dhoni will relax for the most part of the year. Like last season, we may see Dhoni playing in domestic cricket this year too. This year he may play a full domestic season despite the fact that he has retired from test cricket as the Jharkhand players will have an opportunity to learn from him.
