1. Sakshi Malik was born on 3 September in 1992 in Rohtak, a village turned town in the state of Haryana.

2. She joined the wrestling academy at the age of 10 when her mother accompanied her to coach Ishwar Singh Dahiya who is a wrestling coach at the Sir Chotu Ram stadium.

3. Sakshi Malik won her first medal in commonwealth wrestling championship held in Johannesburg in the year 2013. There she won a bronze medal.

4. She won a silver medal in her debut appearance at commonwealth games held in the year 2014 at Glasgow. She defeated Braxton stone of Canada by 3-1.

5. This was the first time that she participated in Olympics and she with her brilliance won the first medal for India.

6. At the start, Malik was trailing by a margin of 0-5 but she bounced back strongly and thus earned crucial points at the end moments of the game to win the Bronze medal.

7. She is the first Indian women wrestler to win a medal at Olympics.

8. Overall she is the fourth Indian female to ever win an Olympic medal.

9. The Chief Minister of Haryana, Manohar Lal Khattar announced a cash reward of 2.5 crores for her. She is also guaranteed a job in Haryana Government.

10. The Indian railways, Indian Olympics association, the JSH group and Salman Khan announced cash rewards for her. They will give her a cash award of Rs. 50 Lakhs, 20 Lakhs, 15 Lakhs and 1.01 Lakhs respectively.
