India ODI skipper MS Dhoni confirmed his participation for a T20 match which will be held at Oval on September 17th as part of a charity event. The event named as “Cricket for Heroes” the first international fundraiser for Help for Heroes, the charity organisation based in the United Kingdom. MS Dhoni will play under the captaincy of former England skipper Andrew Strauss. The event also includes the likes of Virender Sehwag, Shahid Afridi and Grame Swann. The team led by Andrew Strauss will take on Rest of the World eleven led by Brendon McCullum. This team includes retired cricketers like Brian Lara, Matthew Hayden, Grame Smith, Mahela Jayawardene and others.
According to a report from Wisden India, Dhoni said, “I am delighted to be joining so many cricketing superstars at the Kia Oval on Thursday, September 17 and supporting such a worthy cause. I’ve always enjoyed playing cricket in England and I would urge all sports fans to support Help for Heroes on September 17 and watch some truly world class performers in action.”
While The Help for Heroes XI will be managed by the former England all-rounder Sir Ian Botham, the Rest of the World side will be managed the team of Gary Kirsten and Sunil Gavaskar. The match will be prior to a T20 match between the Help for Heroes Cricket Club and the England Physical Disability Team.
