Jinder Mahal Was Not Scheduled To Face Randy Orton At Backlash; Check Out The Original Plans

Last week on Smackdown Live, a six pack challenge took place to determine the no 1 contender for the WWE championship at Backlash involving Dolph Ziggler, Luke Harper, Eric Rowan, Jinder Mahal, Mojo Rowley and Sami Zayn. The match was pretty entertaining and it ended in a shocking way. Jinder Mahal won the match and he will face Randy Orton or Bray Wyatt for the WWE championship at backlash! Can you believe this? Jinder Mahal on the main event scene? It was a shocking decision! Fans looked really confused seeing Jinder winning the match.

The reason behind Jindal’s main event push finally revealed later last week. First, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter had a take on this shocking incident as they pointed out Vince McMahon “clearly feels the company was missing the traditional Anti-American foreigner.” With Rusev currently out injured, speculating Jindal’s push might actually have been planned for him.

The Wrestletalk TV reported another big reason behind Jindal’s push;

“WWE have announced they’ve recently hired Sheetesh Srivastava as Vice President and General Manager for WWE India.

“India is key to the global growth of WWE, and we are confident Sheetesh will successfully help develop our brand and business in this critically important country. WWE is committed to expanding its presence in India, and we are pleased to welcome Sheetesh to further our efforts in the market.”

Recently, Dave Meltzer on the Wrestling Observer Radio claimed that the original push for the main event scene that is Jinder Mahal receiving right now was planned for Baron Corbin. That’s right, it was Baron Corbin who was scheduled to meet Randy Orton for the WWE championship at Backlash.

However, WWE kept Baron Corbin’s push aside for a lateral stage and they decided to put over Jinder Mahal on the scene.

Without any doubt, Randy Orton vs. Baron Corbin could attract more fans than Randy Orton vs. Jinder Mahal, until now. They hinted of forming a faction between Jinder and the Bollywood boys. If they could build this faction storyline well, it can be a big deal and will definitely make the storyline more interesting.
