Top 5 WWE Divas of 2016
Feb 23, 2017 at 4:08 PM
Even though the Women’s revolution behind the WWE started in 2015, it was actually categorized in 2016. So who are the architects who made the Women’s division of WWE look so great? Here we sort it out;
*Note, We aren’t including Bayley in Top 5 as she was brought on the main roster quite late in the year and the WWE failed to utilize her fame and fan support in 2016. We are pretty sure that Bayley will be one of the top women performers but cannot feature her on this list for the reasons already given.
- Asuka
There are a lot of things to be said before including Asuka on this list. You might argue that Bayley did amazing at NXT too, so why doesn’t she deserve to be in this list. Well here is why, as I already said the WWE failed to capitalize Bayley’s fame since she entered the main roster, they kept pushing the feud of Charlotte and Sasha Banks as they neglected Bayley. So if Bayley could not be on this list it is not because of her but the creative.
Moving on to the main topic, Asuka has been a dominant force of NXT Women’s division so far, the current NXT Women’s champion is undefeated, she showcased some of the best matches of NXT and of course, she is the longest reigning NXT Women’s champion till now. Asuka is definitely one of the greatest female professional wrestlers of the world right now if not the best. Some might argue that she should be on the top of the list, but Asuka is not on the main roster yet, that is why we have her on number 5.
- Sasha Banks
She is addressed as “The Boss” for a reason, she is indeed the boss of the Women’s division. Sasha did a tremendous job in her feud with Charlotte and it has already went on being one of the best female feuds in professional wrestling history. She featured on the first ever Women’s Hell in a Cell match and did an excellent job in her Ironman Match with Charlotte at Roadblock. We are pretty sure that we are yet to see the best of Sasha Banks.
- Becky Lynch
Smackdown Live’s first women draft pick The Irish Lass Kicker was introduced as one of the first major stars of the women’s Revolution. Becky Lynch has a huge fan base and in spite of the fact that she was sidelined by Charlotte and Sasha Banks on the bookings before the brand split, she still managed to put some superb performances back to back including her Triple Threat with Charlotte and Sasha Banks from Wrestlemania 32. Becky is also the first ever Smackdown Women’s champion and she very much deserved it, when she was picked by Smackdown she was the only big name to feature the Smackdown brand and she never let her fans down by cashing on the opportunities perfectly.
- Alexa Bliss
It is a little controversial pick that we keep Harley Quinn of the WWE before Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch, but here is why we picked her before them; Alexa was never considered as a big name after getting her main roster break. Her draft to Smackdown was not even featured on the main show. When she competed in the six pack elimination challenge to determine the first ever Smackdown Women’s champion, she was first woman to get eliminated. Which proves she was never been taken as a serious deal. But surprisingly, she was first Diva to beat Becky Lynch to win title. No one saw it coming. Alexa deserved everything she has right now more than anyone in the female roster. She is damn good on mic and arguably, she is currently the best female athlete on mic. She is portraying an excellent heel gimmick and her wrestling skills are pretty good as well. No doubt in mind picking her as our second best pick in this list.
1.Charlotte Flair
Maybe you all saw it coming. Yes indeed, the daughter of ‘Nature Boy’ Ric Flair was the best women athlete of WWE from 2016. With listing victories on first ever Women’s Hell in a Cell match and main roster Iron man match, she won the Raw Women’s championship four times at 2016. She also has an excellent undefeated pay per view streak and is equally good with mic and in ring abilities. We believe that this is just the beginning of Charlotte and we have a lot more to see.
