WWE News: AJ Styles Vs. Randy Orton Announced For Next Week’s Smackdown
Mar 4, 2017 at 2:59 PM
After Smackdown Live ended last week giving too much confusion about the WWE championship match, it was expected that the show-runners will announce yet another big match.
Randy Orton turned his back on Bray Wyatt during the finishing segment of last week’s show declaring that he will go after him. He clearly indicated to challenge him at Wrestlemania for the title. But, earlier, he refused to face Wyatt despite winning the Royal Rumble 2017.
On the other hand, AJ Styles has rightfully earned his spot as the number one contender. He pinned Luke Harper twice to main event Wrestlemania with Bray Wyatt.

So, with both men gunning for their spots, Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon literally had no choice but to make this match official for next week’s Smackdown which will take place on March 7th. The winner of this bout will become the final contender for the prime gold present in the WWE.
WWE.com confirmed the same by posting the following on their official site:
“Who ultimately has the right to challenge Bray Wyatt: the Superstar who won the Royal Rumble Match or the Superstar who won the honor after Orton refused it?
To answer that question, Commissioner Shane McMahon and General Manager Daniel Bryan reviewed all that happened this past week and have determined that The Viper and “The Face that Runs the Place” must go head-to-head this Tuesday at 8/7 C on USA Network to finally establish who will take on The New Face of Fear on The Grandest Stage of Them All.”
Randy Orton is the favorite one to win this contest since the creative has already planned his match against Wyatt at Wrestlemania. On the other hand, Styles will be furious to know that he will have to compete in yet another match to earn the contender’s spot. He will express his frustrations on Shane McMahon to start his next feud for Mania.
Furthermore, this would be one of those dream matches that the WWE Universe wanted to see for a long time. Ever since the WWE Draft happened, the Phenomenal One and The Viper were supposed to lock horns at a certain point.
