WWE News: Goldberg Congratulated Asuka On Surpassing His Undefeated Streak

It was a known fact that WWE is keeping Asuka as the reigning WWE NXT women’s champion with an undefeated streak to surpass her predecessor, Goldberg.

Previously, during his WCW stint, The Myth possessed a career without getting defeated in 173 consecutive matches.

The number 173 is a debatable one since some say that it was intact for 155 matches. However, WWE has always acknowledged the 173 figure to keep intact the kayfabe figure.

Recently, The Empress of Tomorrow, Asuka has surpassed the streak of Goldberg during the NXT Takeover: Chicago. She was able to retain her title against two other competitors, Nikki Cross and Ruby Riot in a triple threat match. With this win, she picked up her overall 177th win in her WWE career and thereby surpassing Goldberg’s record.

The streak has begun on her debut at the NXT brand. She defeated Dana Brooke at the NXT Takeover: The End event to begin it on October 7th, 2015. Later, she went on to pick up the women’s title from the reigning champion, Bayley within six months. Currently, she is holding the championship for 420 days.

Upon achieving the accolade of shattering Goldberg’s streak, the former WCW franchise took his Twitter handle to send a congratulatory message to the NXT women’s champion.

Different names from the pro-wrestling circuit have also joined him to send her heartiest congratulations.

Asuka also paid her tribute to the legendary superstar stating that she has a tremendous amount of respect for Goldberg. She feels extremely honoured in order to overtake the previous streak.

WWE has not acknowledged the fact, till date. However, they are likely to do so, soon. It is likely that Asuka should carry on with the streak since no one from the NXT brand has been chosen to take her spot, yet. She is most likely to carry her streak until the NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III set to take place the night before Summerslam.

In that case, Asuka will remain undefeated for over 200 matches which itself will be an incredible record. It’s hard to believe that someone from today’s pro-wrestling industry to possess such an incredible record considering the bigger competition.
