Akira Tozawa is considered to be a jewel competitor in the Cruiserweight division. He turned out to one of the best performers during the Cruiserweight Classic tournament during the 2016 summer.
Later, WWE offered him a full-time contract to get involved on the 205 Live roster, and he became a main event star on the show.
Only two months ago, on WWE Raw, he defeated Neville to win his first-ever Cruiserweight Championship. It was first-time that the King of the Cruiserweights got dethroned from his 250 plus day reign with the title in hand. So, his accomplishment was quite an incredible one which also gave some spotlight to the Titus Worldwide, as well.
However, due to creative planning, Tozawa has remained to be the champion for only six days before losing it back to Neville. He tried to earn the title but failed. Going forward, the Japanese sensation was not involved in any of the feuds on the 205 Live show. Rather, he featured in some one-off matches.
For a couple of weeks now, Drew Gulak had some issues with The Sun of The Ring and built up some initial rivalry against him. But, that got quite personal after a vicious attack on this past Tuesday Night following Smackdown Live.
A match was already scheduled to take place between Gulak and Tozawa on the show. But, during the latter one’s entrance, the master of power-point presentations came from behind and pounced on him. After delivering some big boots on the ramp, he thwarted Tozawa into LED board.
The officials came running to make the save but were not able to stop the vicious attack. At one point, Gulak hit his opponent with the ‘No Chant’ signboard right into his throat leading to a potential injury. Later, WWE.com confirmed the intensity of the injury with the following statements:
“WWE.com has learned from Dr Stephen Daquino that Akira Tozawa has suffered a laryngeal contusion and swollen vocal chords following an attack by Drew Gulak on WWE 205 Live.”
It is believed that Tozawa will not miss any significant time for competing inside the ring. It might just work, as per storyline basis before the Japanese sensation strikes back his opponent.
