As an Indian, we must be living in our dreams now that an Indian-origin superstar is holding the WWE Championship and continuing his dominant run in the company. Back then, when Jinder Mahal pulled off the shocker by defeating Randy Orton, it created a ruckus around the pro-wrestling industry. Nobody could believe that it actually happened at the Backlash PPV.
It was quite evident since Jinder Mahal used to be a jobber on WWE Raw for the better part of his career since returning to the company. The drastic change of his career happened after the Superstar Shakeup when he was shifted to the Smackdown brand. Not only, he became the WWE Champion but also, he successfully retained it against The Viper, later.
Until now, he has been given quite a dominant run as to make it adjacent that he is representing a country with 1.3 billion people. Quite obviously, his run has been able to make the Indian fans curious and attracted to the WWE TV. This increased the Indian viewers, as well. So, Jinder is not expected to drop the championship at the upcoming Battleground PPV, as well.
He is already 2-0 against The Viper and willing to make the record even better on this Sunday. WWE is not intending to let the Modern Day Maharaja dropping his title before the month of September, at least. This shows the faith of the company on him.
So, while talking to India Today, the champion felt grateful to help WWE capturing more of the Indian market with his title reign. Check out his statement:
“WWE sees India as a huge opportunity and wants to continue to build its base. Personally, I am hoping being champion will increase the WWE Universe in India because I know that Indian fans are really passionate and I want to be WWE Champion in India.”
It’s evident that the company is also willing to host a WWE Live Event to present him in front of the audience as the champion. Jinder confirmed it but he was not quite sure when it would happen, exactly:
“There is no date confirmed yet, but WWE is working very hard at the moment to conserve a date. I am personally very excited to come to India.”
