Later, it turned out to be not only the most controversial storyline of the Ruthless Aggression Era but also in the entire history of WWE, perhaps.
In case you don’t know, Lita debuted in the WWE as part of the team Extreme faction consisting Matt and Jeff Hardy. They continued performing as a unit for several years. This led Matt and Lita to go into a relationship.
But, in 2005, the WWE Hall of Famer suffered a serious concussion was out of action for several months. He continued to feature into WWE TV as a valet for Kane and became close to Edge, due to storyline purposes. Soon, they started dating each other as Lita ditched his former boyfriend, Matt Hardy.
Recently, Lita appeared on the podcast hosted by former WWE announcer, Lillian Garcia to disclose that what forced her to end her relationship with Matt. Here were her statements:
“We were slightly disconnected while I was at home recuperating because he was still 100% into his career and I was 100% out of it at the moment because I had to be. And I remember thinking ‘Yeah we’re not gonna be together after our careers are over because of that, that is our bond. The way we view life, our interests, they don’t really align you know?”
The four-time women’s champion also said that she realised her feelings towards the Rated R Superstar after they kissed on-screen. Lita confessed it by saying,
“I know both of us were kind of like, ‘Oh sh*t’ you know once we started to realise we were more than just two bros just hanging out. And so the hard thing that has always been with this time period is, you know, we realised we were going down a path that we shouldn’t and what I mean by that is mental. We’d kissed finally and freaked out.”
Both Edge and Lita are retired from professional wrestling, for now. Only Matt is still regularly performing in the WWE after his return at Wrestlemania 33. Lita also congratulated her ex on twitter, recently for coming back and winning the Raw tag team championship.
