The New Day is the reigning WWE World tag team champions right now and crossed 320 plus days with the gold. With the belts on their waist, the unicorns have been nothing but pure entertainment to us every week. They bring out the humor like nobody else and thus making themselves the most popular faction in the WWE universe. So, they rightfully will be crossing the longest reigning record for the tag titles i.e. currently held by Paul London and Brian Kendrick. (331 days)
In the meantime, though there’s bad news waiting for The New Day fans. As per a report from cagesideseats.com, The New Day will be defending their tag team championship at the upcoming PPV, Battleground against the Wyatt family and likely to come up short. Getting one step further, daliwrestlingnews.com suggests that the WWE Creative thinks that the team is not getting the audience like before and they are going to split the dream team in near future.
Upon the split, the muscle power of the team, Big E will receive huge singles push whereas Kofi and Xavier Woods are likely to get down to the mid-card level on the roster. Meanwhile, Big E had a conversation with the Rappler Podcast where he explained why the feud with The Wyatt family is different for them. He quoted: (courtesy SportsKeeda.com)
“I think it’s a stark contrast from the feuds that we’ve had in the past, which tended to be based around physicality. There isn’t often times a lot more depth – one of the things we like is that in a different way that we would go back and forth with Enzo and Cass, which is more just cracking jokes back and forth. Obviously, we’re still gonna be us, but I think with Bray, and the way he controls the mic and – is you know, one of the better talkers of our generation. I think it definitely adds a different challenge for us and a new wrinkle. I think this program is just going to show a different side of both teams and feel fresh.”
The New Day has won PWI’s tag team of the year in 2015 and Wrestling Observer’s Gimmick of the year award, as well.
