Tomorrow will mark the beginning of the Backlash weekend in the WWE. On Sunday we will witness the returning Smackdown-exclusive PPV. But before that, tomorrow there will be an additional event. The NXT Takeover will return, as well. Two big events are scheduled from the infamous All-state arena in Chicago, Illinois.
Generally, The Takeover event takes place during a dual-brand PPV. So, we get 4 of them in a calendar year. This year, WWE has come up with this additional NXT special which might turn out be even more successful than the Backlash PPV.
Also, this will mark the first year where no NXT Takeover will take place in the home of the WWE’s younger talents, Full Sail University. The first two have already taken place in San Antonio and Orlando where the next three will take place in Chicago, Brooklyn, and Houston, respectively.
However, the reports suggest that no title is likely to change hands in this event. There will be three titles up for grabs on that night from NXT. Speculations suggested that the United Kingdom championship might be dropped by Tyler Bate.
But, cagesideseats.com reported that WWE creative is not intending to make any changes to the title, for now. Also, the source confirmed the same rule will be applied to the Backlash PPV, as well. The WWE and the US championship along with the tag team titles will be on the line on that night.
Many considered that Jinder Mahal had chances of picking up the title since a big push is coming in his way. But, Randy Orton is Vince McMahon’s guy and there’s no way that he is dropping the title, so early. His next program against Rusev is intact for the Money in the Bank PPV and will start as soon as he is done with Jinder.
Also, Kevin Owens has just picked up the second US title from Chris Jericho becoming the Face of America. It will not allow him to drop the title, thus early. So, AJ Styles has to wait some more to pick up the title from Owens.
In the case of the tag team titles, The Usos are the veteran champions and there’s no way they are losing it to the rookie players known as Breezango. They are also scheduled for a program against The New Day when they return.
