WWE News: Official Confirms Sushil Kumar Will Not Join The Company

It came as a major delightful news when India’s very own Sushil Kumar was approached by the WWE during the end of 2016. Various sources suggested that the talks were heading towards a positive end and soon come to a fruition.

This would have been a great deal for both the parties as Sushil would join the WWE roster as only the second-ever Olympic medalist in the history of the company (The first one is Kurt Angle).

It would help the WWE product to reach more into the mainstream audience. On the other hand, a name like Sushil Kumar joining the biggest pro-wrestling league in the world might have opened the door for more in the future.

However, all of those possibilities have washed away with confirmation coming directly from WWE Vice-president Canyon Ceman. He was present in Mumbai to unveil the WWE Shop and spoke to the media confirming that the deal between WWE and Sushil is not happening.

This is what he offered to the media:

“I was happy to meet with him. This clearly is a guy who commands respect. He is a national icon. But it was hard for us to convince him, from being a national icon of India to come to America where there are no guarantees that he is going to make it through this very competitive system.”

Ceman further confirmed that the attempts were there from both the end to complete the deal. However, neither one of them was convinced enough. This was the exact reason stated by him as of why the deal was abruptly called off:

“So it was hard for us to tell him that ‘you leave this amazing life in India and come and risk it all in America where we are not sure of anything’. The conversation was definitely of mutual interest but it did not work out eventually”

The senior official in the WWE did confirm though that they are looking for a talent from India that would help them to reach to the subcontinent audience.

A female wrestler named Kavita will have a try-out in Dubai for the company, as revealed by him. In case you don’t know, The Great Khali is the only one originated from India who had become a world champion in the company.
