Big Show was seen training hard for the entire last part of 2016 to get into the best shape of his life, so far. This is due to his expected match against Shaquille O’Neil. These two had a face-off during last year’s Wrestlemania upon which Show challenged him for a match, last year during the ESPYs. The NBA veteran accepted to confirm the match.
However, the match has now been officially called off after WWE announced Big Show to enter into the 4th edition of Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, at Wrestlemania. There was no build up done regarding this match from WWE’s part and it was evident to happen at one point.
The sources reveal that the planning of this match was nixed due to monetary reasons. Shaq was not happy with the money being offered by the company. The negotiations were going on for a long time before Shaq backed up, finally.
The world’s largest athlete recently talked to Justin Barrasso of SI.com where he mentioned his previously scheduled opponent as a ‘princess’ whom WWE failed to manage. These were his comments regarding this matter:
“Whether Shaq has other obligations or business, that’s on him. As far as I know, we’re still trying to make Princess Shaq happy so we can move forward with the match at WrestleMania.
If you want to do this, come do this. This is something where Shaq saw how great of shape I was in, and he decided to back out. That’s a personal thing on Shaq.”
On the other hand, Shaquille O’Neil opened up in recent times stating that he was not contacted by any WWE officials and hence the match was called off.
Big Show is the one who is the victim of the situation. He was preparing for this match for a long time considering he might not get a chance to wrestle in a big match like this, ever. Plus, this was also supposed to mark his send-off match.
He is a veteran in the WWE who has served the company for over twenty long years. He needs to be given a proper send-off and an alternative arrangement should be made for him. Only future can tell if he gets a decent farewell or not.
