The much-anticipated WWE Draft took place on the WWE Smackdown Live which was hosted by DCU center in Worcester, Massachusetts. WWE Raw has grabbed superstars like Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar, Charlotte, Finn Balor etc. whereas Smackdown managed to grab top stars like WWE Champion Dean Ambrose, John Cena, AJ Styles, Randy Orton, Bray Wyatt etc. The entire pro-wrestling fraternity is still buzzing with the monumental occasion of the WWE Draft.
From this point onwards, Smackdown will air live on the USA Network on every Tuesday. The countdown begins as the WWE Draft will finally look to equalize both the Raw and Smackdown brand.
Now, with the biggest wrestling promotion in the world being reconstructed, the newly appointed commissioner of Raw, Stephanie McMahon opened up about how long the backstage planning was going on regarding the same. She also addressed Vince McMahon’s involvement regarding the matter.
Stephanie recently appeared on The Wrestling Compadres Slamcast where she discussed the whole brand split idea. While answering the question of how long the idea of the “brand split” was knocking around the Boss’s and the official’s mind she said it was “around sometime.” She added that the idea was there in Vince’s mind for a long time but the things got finalized only Smackdown live was closing nearby. Stephanie McMahon quoted:
“It’s something that Vince McMahon had planned on for quite some time, but we hadn’t fully developed it until it got closer to SmackDown going live. It has been in the works for a little while now. But the Shane McMahon storyline certainly gives us a great storyline platform to promote it.”
Upon the conclusion of the WWE Draft, Stephanie McMahon along with the Raw General Manager Mick Foley was seemingly very happy and claimed that they literally won the Draft. With the hardcore legend in charge of Raw and Daniel Bryan in charge of Smackdown, it is evident that the fight between the two brands is on.
