WWE repurchased the World Championship Wrestling promotion in the year 2001 which was the biggest acquisition in the history of pro-wrestling, till date. At that time, WCW turned out to be a big threat for Vince McMahon, and so he decided to make it extinct by taking it over. As part of which we have seen the Invasion Angle and the Monday Night War during the attitude era.
Going forward, WWE has taken over the roster of WCW and used championships into their shows. The Worlds Heavyweight, Cruiserweight and United States Championships are examples of the same. The entire tape library of WCW is available on the WWE Network.
Plus, on different occasions, WWE had arranged some old PPV events that used to be hosted by the WCW. In recent past, we have witnessed the concept of Clash of Champions to be back as a PPV, last year. Plus, an episode of The Great American Bash was hosted in the year 2012.
In recent times, the WWE officials are trying to bring some varieties to the programming on both Raw and Smackdown Live. So, Pro-Wrestling Sheet has reported that they might be thinking to bring some former WCW PPV gimmicks to back into the programming, again. Some of the special episodes might be named after old PPVs to boost up the ratings.
WCW always used to host the PPVs as per the seasons. So, the Halloween Havoc would be the most perfect to host on an episode of Smackdown since this year, Halloween falls on Tuesday. Apart from this one, three more names are being considered to be back which can be hosted in any of the seasons around the year. Events like WrestleWar, Slamboree, World War 3 and others are supposed to be on the card. We will receive confirmations on these in due course.
Previously, we reported that the Taboo Tuesday concept is to be back in the future. The officials are willing to host this as a special edition of Smackdown since the show has moved to Tuesday Nights. It would be much similar to the concept of Wild Card Finale night in 2016 or the recent Sin City edition.
