WWE News: The Legal Conflict Between Impact And Hardy Boyz Continues
Jun 29, 2017 at 1:48 PM
Ever since the Hardy Boyz left the Impact Wrestling promotion, a legal war is ongoing between them. The matter is with the ‘broken’ gimmick of the Hardyz. Impact Wrestling is claiming that the rights of this one belong to them, whereas, Matt Hardy himself is the creator of this persona which transforms him into a weird character much similar to that of Bray Wyatt from the WWE.
The dispute was never settled since Impact offered WWE to buy the rights of this gimmick with a handsome amount. However, the officials from WWE were not interested in it. Furthermore, The Hardyz sued their former employer stating they do not have the rights to ask money for something that does not belong to them.
In a recent happening Jeff Jarrett who is the Chief Creative Officer of the Impact Wrestling promotion talked to Wrestle: List and once again boasted about the fact that the ‘broken’ gimmick is an exclusive property of them. He also mentioned the dispute between Hardy Boyz and Impact over the gimmick is “silly squabble”.
Jarrett who is also a former WWE employee stated that he worked in Nashville music scene for quite sometimes. So, he does have the knowledge about one’s intellectual property. In this case, too, the ‘broken’ gimmick is an intellectual property of the ‘publishers’ and the ‘writers’ but not the ‘performers’ (referring to the Hardyz).
He also stated that he was best of friends with Jeff Hardy for the past 20 years but ‘business is business’ and no illegal sequences will be tolerated. Check out his quotes:
“There is no question that Broken Matt and Brother Nero’s performances were off the charts good. But when it comes to ownership to me it’s almost a silly squabble, it’s never been in question. Impact are the owners.”
Reby Hardy, wife of Matt Hardy fired back on Twitter to these comments from Jeff. There’s quite a fan backlash over not seeing the ‘broken’ gimmick in the WWE and Reby tried to capitalise using that. Check out the tweets as no solution has been fund to settle the dispute between the two parties:
Truth is TNA can’t afford to go to court over this, so they’re going to downplay it to anyone who will listen & lie to look powerful

If the issue was as simple & cut/dry as these morons are trying to make it seem, I wouldn’t have been out here fighting for my family.

Don’t say you wanna be done with drama in a quiet manner & then have company stooges like Jeff & Dutch give interviews spewing BS.
