WWE News: The Spirit Squad’s Status In The WWE

The Spirit squad belongs to the ruthless aggression era in the WWE. They made their debut in 2006 to have a feud with the D-Generation X. The gimmick was not accepted well by the WWE Universe and they got vanquished after sometimes. The only member of the squad who had a career in the company is Dolph Ziggler.

Now, as we have seen, Mikey and Kenny, the other members of the Spirit Squad, were brought back to Smackdown Live brand in order to help the Miz against Ziggler. It was thought that they were brought only to hype up their epic match at the No Mercy PPV. But, the recent reports suggest something else.

Cagesideseats.com reported that the Spirit Squad will stick around for a longer period. Their primary job would be to act as Miz’s goons. Zigger, the current Intercontinental champion, will show his resistance against the combined protest to retain his title. This, in turn, will make him look even stronger.

It is also worth to mention the return of Mikey and Kenny was well accepted by the WWE Universe and hence they can be brought to the Tag-Team title picture as well. They have already beaten the tag team champions (Heath Slater and Rhyno) on Smackdown and might turn out to be a trouble for them.

The rest of the squad i.e. Mitch and Johnny, could not return. Mitch works as a serviceman while Johnny stays in Israel and has become a religious person. Hopefully, their second stint in the WWE would not turn out to be as dull as in 2006. Smackdown’s tag team division still needs depth and their inclusion might be the right thing.
