On July 23rd, it will mark the 5th edition of the Battleground PPV which is the third Smackdown-exclusive following Wrestlemania 33. We are just two weeks away from the show and hence it was expected the card to be filled to a certain extent by the end of this week’s Smackdown.

That’s what we have witnessed on the latest episode of the show where the marquee matches for the night got confirmed. The WWE Championship match for the Battleground PPV inside the Punjabi Prison match has already been confirmed. Plus, three new matches were announced.

As reported earlier, the United States title match between AJ Styles and Kevin Owens was pulled off from the card for some unknown reasons. But, that has now been added back to the card.

Owens suffering a back injury was the potential reason behind this. But, he was not only present in this week’s Smackdown but also competed in the main event indicating that there’s no concussion issue for which he has to take a time-off. So, the mega match is on at Battleground.

The speculations around the Women’s title match were there on the rumour mill for quite a long time. To address it, Shane McMahon confirmed a fatal-five-way elimination match featuring Charlotte, Natalya, Tamina, Lana and Becky Lynch with the winner getting a shot to the title at Summerslam.

While the match is surely going to be a thrilling encounter, it is pretty unfortunate that the fighting champion, Naomi had to take the night off. There’s no scheduled opponent for her, at this moment.

Also, after the physical altercations that are ongoing between Shinsuke Nakamura and Baron Corbin, the match between these two has also been sanctioned for the Battleground PPV. It was further confirmed by WWE.com, later. Here are the till-date announced six matches for the evening,

Jinder Mahal vs. Randy Orton (Punjabi Prison Match for WWE Championship)

AJ Styles vs. Kevin Owens (WWE United States Championship)

The New Day vs. The Usos (Smackdown tag team championship)

John Cena vs. Rusev (Flag match)

Charlotte vs. Becky Lynch vs. Natalya vs. Tamina vs. Lana (Fatal-5-way elimination match)

Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Baron Corbin
