There’s no doubt that a singles encounter between John Cena and Roman Reigns will eventually happen, at some point. These two are the franchises of the company and a “passing the torch” match must take place in order to let Cena pass the baton to The Big Dog. The question is when we would expect to witness the dream contest.

Despite these two superstars being the two most hated wrestlers of this era, the critics have approved them to be the flag-bearers of the company. So, there’s no way that WWE is not going to pit them against each other whether fans like it or not.

Eventually, whenever they will square off, it is going to be a matchup of Wrestlemania calibre. So, the company will have to wait for the best occasion. As of now, they both are separated by the brand extensions and there’s no way that they are going to lock their horns in the near future.

But, recently, Michael Hayes who is better known as one of the production heads of the WWE appeared in an episode of Table For 3 and nurtured the idea. It’s a clear indication that how WWE is intending to go when it comes to these two behemoths of this generation.

Hayes appeared in the WWE Network special alongside Eric Bischoff and Jim Cornette. He went to clarify the similarities between John Cena and Roman Reigns and why he would like them to have their spectacular match, at one point. Here are the excerpts from his comment:

“It’s somewhat of the Cena dynamic and what I mean by that is, especially at live events, the kids like him, the girls like him. You hear that high-pitched positive vibe. Then, you hear the negative vibe from the men, the deeper voices.”
“But eventually when he hits his finish and he wins, everybody pops. and we always thought we should’ve turned Cena, but this guy has gone longer than anybody. Think about that. Anybody with that much consistency, with that much longevity on top, and still works that hard and still loves this business.”

Considering that Hayes is on an important role among the creative team, it is certain that his thinking is the similar to that of the writers and none other than Vince McMahon. The Boss is also expected to appear in one episode of Table For 3 which might give a hint as of when we can see this inevitable matchup, one day.
