WWE Raw March 20, 2017 Analysis

This week’s Raw was a little set back comparing a number of previous weeks. It was not a bad week, it did make some good progress for WrestleMania, and they also cashed in good with the Mick Foley situation, still, things could be better, expectations were really high from this episode, which they could not deliver.

Mick Foley was given the night start with a scripted farewell speech which was okay as Stephanie McMahon came out and accused him again for not doing his job rightfully. Sami Zayn came out to tell Stephanie that she was not doing the right thing. She punished him for protesting by putting him in a match with Samoa Joe. For the match it was okay. Samoa Joe did came out victorious but it did not bury Sami. For the segment, it was kinda dull. Sami coming out for the right is okay but the purpose of his involvement was not clear enough. Are they trying to build him as the next Daniel Bryan who stands against the evil side of the authority? If it is so, then why is he losing all his matches? And booking him against Samoa Joe tonight does not seem like they will go head to head at WrestleMania. What is there for these two athletes then? WrestleMania is only two weeks away, and only one episode of Raw left before that, and these two athletes are not even booked? So are they both going to Andre the Giant Battle Royal?

There were so many matches this week again. None of the matches were much impressive. Once again, it was more of a promo oriented week. But it is okay, to build up the WrestleMania feuds, you do need promos.

Let us talk about the Women’s matches first. We had Dana Brooke vs. Charlott Flair. This match built up Dana as a very strong athlete. This is a good sign, Raw seriously needs more women to shine. The other match was between Nia Jax and Bayley. Once again, Bayley lost clean. This is a very bad sign for Raw women’s title. Their babyface champion loses almost every week. It shows Bayley is a weak champion who won the title by fluke.

We had some more matches, among them was a 4 on 2 handicap match. It was arguably the worst worked match of the night. Enzo and Cass allied with Gallows and Anderson against Cesaro and Sheamus. Gallows and Anderson took out Enzo and Cass before the match could start, and Sheamus easily pinned Anderson with the Brogue Kick. Once again, Gallows and Anderson was presented as a weak team which is a very bad sign.

About the promos, Chris Jericho cut one of the best promos of this year so far. What a promo it was, it clearly shows why he is one of the best athletes on the mic right now. The ending of the segment was a little lame as Owens attacking Jericho from behind, but Owens tearing up the List of Jericho is an excellent boost for the feud.

Seth Rollins was presented as badly injured even though he was recovering great as they said. They were trying to show that he would not be able to make it to WrestleMania. Looks like we will have this match, however, we might not get a great contest.

The biggest downfall of the week is the absence of both Goldberg and Brock Lesnar. This is why this feud is being hated by the fans so much. WrestleMania is only two weeks away and there is no activity for your world title? Even though they kept hyping the match by different video footages but it was not enough.

Braun Strowman and Roman Reigns went head to head. The match was going good but unfortunately, the result was not satisfying. Braun had to win this match. But they just have to present Roman is next to god. Undertaker appeared during the match but not to cost Roman the match, just to confront him and to get speared by him at the end. Might be a good look for the feud, but a terrible look for Braun.

Overall, it was an average show with some lame matches and good promos. It is really awful to see that Raw is not promoting the Andre the Giant battle royal, only Smackdown is doing the thing. Raw has announced only one athlete to get booked for the match that Big Show. They keep showing Roman as the strongest wrestler ever is really getting boring to see. It did have some good WrestleMania buildups but no build up for the Universal title made it really bad.
