There’s a strong reason as to why WWE is advertising John Cena as the ‘free agent’. This is to ensure that some of the much-anticipated dream matches come to fruition sooner. The franchise player has turned into part-timer’s role for quite sometimes now. Hence, giving him with the championship would not sense much.

Rather, he can perform in the dream matches against the likes of Samoa Joe and Roman Reigns. Being on Smackdown Live would not allow him to square off against these men but he will be free to arrive on Raw, as well after coming back to the company.

As per the recent reports from the Observer, WWE has altered their upcoming plans based on the fact that John Cena will be available on both Raw and Smackdown in the future. This is why they might have moved from the earlier planning of having the Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar match at Wrestlemania 34.

According to the source, WWE is looking to replace the rematch from Wrestlemania 31 with the classic bout of John Cena vs. Roman Reigns. Fans are waiting to see this match for quite sometimes now. However, these two being on the different brands never allowed it to come to fruition.

With the scenario changing, Roman Reigns has declared himself as the number one contender for the Universal Championship. This is to ensure that we get to see the Big Dog and the Beast Incarnate squaring off, earlier than expected. If the ongoing plans are kept intact then we will witness it at the main event of Summerslam.

The upcoming ambulance match between Reigns and Strowman will be made as the number one contender’s match, at some point. Braun Strowman was the original one to face Brock Lesnar at the Great Balls of Fire PPV. On the other hand, Reigns claims WWE to be his yard ever since he defeated the Undertaker at Wrestlemania.

So, this is understandable that anyone between them will get the opportunity to face the Conqueror on August 20th. Till date, Roman Reigns is favorite to win the match against Strowman and then head on to facing Brock Lesnar.
