WWE Summerslam is the second biggest pay-per-view of the year in WWE. It started back in 1987 and this year we will see the mega event’s 29th anniversary. It is considered among the oldest four events in the entire year i.e. alongside Wrestlemania, Royal Rumble, and Survivor Series. This year the pay-per-view will take place from the Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York on August 21st, that means the same venue will be hosting the event. The event will air live on WWE Network.

With only three months to head towards the event, WWE creative and officials have started to finalize the match cards and the main event. According to the latest reports coming from Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the main events for the events has already been sketched which will include stars like returning John Cena, Seth Rollins, Brock Lesnar and the current WWE World heavyweight champion Roman Reigns. These heavyweight names most likely will fill up the upper-card for the pay-per-view and Reigns certainly be walking in the event as the champion.
There has not been any finalization, as of now with Brock Lesnar’s opponent for the event. As per the previous reports, The Wyatt Family’s Braun Strowman of Bray Wyatt himself was considered as his challenger but that plan has been nixed. Lesnar will return to the ring at a live event in Honolulu, Hawaii on June 29th. So, we can expect him to return on Raw to build up his match at Summerslam.

Apart from Lesnar’s main event, Cagesideseats.com reports that the renewed rivalry between Seth Rollins and WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns will carry on even after Money in the Bank pay-per-view on June 19th. There will be more than one match between the two of them and finally the feud most probably will culminate at WWE Summerslam.
The rumor mill also suggests that if the feud ends by the last pay-per-view before Summerslam i.e. on Battleground then WWE may end up having the flag-bearer match between John Cena and Roman Reigns. We can expect a face turn of Rollins then who may have his shelved rematch at Wrestlemania 32 against Triple H.
