WWE Rumor: Smackdown Live To Have A New Broadcasting Format


  • Apparently, the recent reports are suggesting that Smackdown Live is set to get a new broadcasting format, soon. The reports from broadcastingcable.com stated that a picture to picture advertising strategy might be applied to the show to help it with the ratings.

    This strategy will keep the show alive even when it goes to the commercials. Generally, in between the matches or segments, we often got to the advertisements with the show still continuing. If anything notable happens during the commercials, it is shown in split screen, later.

    In the new format, the show will say on air with the audio being muted and the commercials being shown. The advertisements will come in a bigger screen whereas the main show will go in the left corner of the screen. The TV audience will be able to catch all the actions from the show without any cut in this way. check out a screenshot of the upcoming split screen from the show:

    The strategy is the brainchild of the NBC Universal Studios who owns the number one Network in the United States i.e. the USA Network. Both, WWE’s weekly programming, Monday Night Raw and Smackdown Live gets aired on the channel on Monday & Tuesday, respectively.

    The production did a test run to the said format during the WWE Draft night on 19th July 2016. No further run in this format was done, later. As seen in the picture, the advertisements get larger on the TV screen whereas the show continues in a small box.

    NBC previously admitted that the format has increased the view of the episode was increased by 13% with the overall increment of 2%. We have to keep in mind that it was the inaugural episode of Smackdown Live which witnessed a record 3 million viewers. The historic WWE Draft that split the two brands also took place on that night.

    There’s no confirmation as of when the new format will be applied to Smackdown Live. But speculations suggest that we might start to see it from the month of June. The blue brand is lacking some big time TV ratings ever since Wrestlemania has passed by. The absence of bigger star power like John Cena, Nikki Bella & the GM, Daniel Bryan is the reason behind it.
