Chris Jericho’s ‘Highlight Reel’ with special guest Sami Zayn

Chris Jericho’s highlight reel was in full force on WWE Smackdown after Stephanie McMahon reinstated it on this past week’s WWE Raw. WWE Smackdown was taped this week from Kansas City, Missouri and Y2J kicked things off with his iconic show. Before calling his special guest for the night, Sami Zayn he continued his boasting about how he took out Ambrose and his Asylum on Raw. Zayn came down to the ring and Jericho mocked him by calling “thief” for his action on Raw when he held The Miz’s Intercontinental Championship. The Miz and Maryse soon joined the party only to get frustrated by Zayn touching his title constantly which set up an impromptu match between them.

Sami Zayn def. The Miz by Disqualification

Following a war of words on the “Highlight Reel,” Intercontinental Champion Miz went to battle against a very game Sami Zayn. Kevin Owens was present in the commentary table as he was haunting Zayn as always and you can expect nothing but utter chaos with him being around. Owens attacked Zayn mid-way in the match to end the contest via disqualification. The Swiss Superman Cesaro came down to help Zayn and thwart the heels away from the ring to end the segment with the Intercontinental championship above his head.

The Vaudevillains def. Curtis Axel & Bo Dallas

The Vaudevillains literally got a walk over to face the New Day for their tag team titles after Enzo Amore got hurt at WWE Payback. Meanwhile on SmackDown, Aiden English, and Simon Gotch battled Curtis Axel & Bo Dallas of The Social Outcasts. However, after the bell Big Cass came into the ring to bulldoze his way to everyone present in the ring. He even powerbombed Axel to finish the segment on WWE Smackdown.

Becky Lynch & Natalya def. Charlotte & Emma

At Extreme Rules, Natalya will look to rise above the controversy of the “Chicago Screw-job” with a Submission Match against Charlotte with Ric Flair banned from ringside. On WWE Smackdown, the Queen of Harts joined forces with Becky Lynch to take on the Women’s champion with Emma. The battle ended with Nattie locking in the Sharpshooter while staring directly at Charlotte, making an emphatic statement.

Rusev def. Zack Ryder

This was a quick match as anticipated, where the new number one contender for the US title picked up the win against Ryder with the accolade locked in which followed by a celebration by Rusev and Lana. Kalisto came to the ring aftermath to hit Rusev with a corkscrew before heading back to the locker room.

The Usos vs. Gallows and Anderson ends in No Contest

On WWE SmackDown, Jey and Jimmy Uso once again went head-to-head against Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson, with both Reigns and Styles keeping watch at ringside. While Reigns was checking one of his cousins outside the ring Anderson hit with a kick to Reigns’ face leading him to the ring and causing it a no contest. This led to the six-man tag team match in the main event of WWE Smackdown.

Roman Reigns & The Usos def. AJ Styles, Luke Gallows & Kyle Anderson

This was a rematch from WWE Raw. In the height of the contest Roman Reigns almost split half Anderson with a Spear while Styles was prevented from breaking the pin by one of the Usos. WWE Smackdown ended with a routine stare-down between the champion and the challenger for the WWE world heavyweight championship.
