After the opening segment of Reigns vs. Rusev came to a quick finish as Del Rio and his league of nation ally King Barrett interfered and forced the referee to call for the bell, a post-match assault ensued to Reigns, but Dean Ambrose charged the ring to even the odds. But, in the midst of the unpredictable assault he took out Reigns accidentally which resulted in a 3-on-1 assault on Ambrose. Reigns recovered luckily and brought a chair to equalize things. The early happenings set up for a later main event tag team action.
After Dean Ambrose accidently made contact with Roman Reigns during a brawl with The League of Nations earlier in the night, the big question heading into SmackDown’s main event was: Will the brothers-in-arms be able to coexist in their route to the show-stopping main event Triple threat match at WWE Fastlane?
At one point in the match, Ambrose nearly took out Reigns off the top rope for a narrow escape. But they managed to regroup quickly to take out the frustration on the opponents and Del Rio was cleared from the ring which paved the way for Reigns to hit a huge spear on Rusev for the victory.
Reigns and Del Rio brawl on the outside. Ambrose goes for a suicide dive, but Del Rio escapes and Ambrose lands on Reigns. Reigns and Ambrose begin to argue. Reigns with a SuperMan Punch to Rusev. Reigns brings Rusev back into the ring and connects with the Spear to pickup the victory.
