WWE Summerslam 2016: Full match-card, preview, prediction and analysis

We have got some epic match ups in the biggest event of the summer, Summerslam. This will mark the first PPV since the WWE Draft has passed by and hence paved the way to build such a dream scenario matchups for the 29th anniversary of the PPV. Two of the most successful Indi stars and the future torch-bearers for WWE will square-off for the first-ever WWE Universal Championship match from Raw. Smackdown will see the battle of The Lunatic Fringe and the Show-off, who came out of nowhere to become the number one contender. If that’s not sound mouth-watering then a rivalry that took 15 years to shape up will look to settle on Sunday. Summerslam will see the clash of two pro-wrestling veterans Brock Lesnar and Randy Orton. Here’s what to expect from each of the matches from the night.

Carmella, Becky Lynch, and Naomi vs. Natalya and Alexa Bliss (Women Tag Team Match)

It looks like Smackdown has not figured it out how to utilize their female talents and hence came up with this filler. All the competitors from the match were supposed to put up fights except for Eva Marie. But as reported earlier, the All-Red-everything Diva, the main attraction of the match got suspended from WWE. Hence, there’s some uncertainty whether this one is going to be a 2-on-3 handicap match or not. Expect Nikki Bella to fill up Eva’s spot here and the babyfaces for the win.

summer1

Cesaro vs. Sheamus (First Match in a Best of Seven Series)

Mick Foley announced the seven-match series for the two of them which hopefully will lead the two of them to the main event spotlight. The hatred between these two tough competitors started growing since WWE Draft and what better way to keep their frustrations off with a feel like old classic series of matches. It really does not matter whoever wins the contest at Summerslam since even better quality matches follow afterwards. Sheamus may continue with his recent losing streak, though.

summer3

Rusev (c) (with Lana) vs. Roman Reigns (WWE United States Championship)

It’s good to see Roman Reigns getting at least some cheers from the crowd. Though he slipped a bit from the WWE’s food chain but it’s been good for him after the being punished for the Wellness policy violation. At least, the public can bear him a lot as the opponent of Rusev who is fighting for the glory of United States. In the process, Rusev too has been promoted to the main event scene with Lana in his corner. However, he will fail to topple the Roman Empire at Summerslam and would soon to go on the WWE universal championship hunt, in the near future. Reigns will do the work as John Cena used to do with the US championship.

summer4

Enzo Amore and Big Cass vs. Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens

It will be more like a war of words rather than a physical battle. We have already seen classic than these two teams and what an amazing job done by the newly paired Jeri-KO. We’ve got no choice but to “Drink it in, maaaannnnn!!!” The two jerks are perfect to pull off their duties and will continue to do it against Enzo and Cass. Expect them to come up victorious with some cheap means. They can even continue to exist as tag team even after Summerslam.

summer5

The New Day (Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston) (c) vs. The Cub (Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson) (WWE Tag Team Championship)

As per trivia, The New Day kick started their historic title reign at last year’s Summerslam and almost after one long year they have found an opponent to take the gold away from them. WWE Creative triggered master plan by taking out Big E to make things even for the Club. With powerhouse being absent, it’s finally time to let The New Day free from the title reign which’s been the most exciting in PG era. From Summerslam onwards, WWE Raw needs the three unicorns as individuals and hence they will end up losing the bout.

summer6

John Cena vs. AJ Styles

We have seen the dream match at the Money in the Bank PPV. However, we know how to match these two are capable of and hence we are excited to see the second edition of the AJ vs. John Cena. We have thoroughly enjoyed the #beatupJohnCena for the last month but lately, Cena has emerged with his own aggression, putting AJ through the commentary table this past week on Smackdown. Since AJ does not have his boys, this time, Cena will settle the score 1-1 at Summerslam. They might lock up with some special stipulation at the next Smackdown PPV event, Backlash.

summer7

The Miz (c) (with Maryse) vs. Apollo Crews (WWE Intercontinental Championship)

The Miz have had enough of his title run and it’s now time for a change. So, Apollo Creed, sorry Apollo Crews will hold the Intercontinental Championship for the very first time. We really don’t need to elaborate to discuss this one, further. A fresh face and fresh feuds will make Apollo and the IC title’s run fare.

summer8

Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte (WWE Women’s Championship; Dana Brooke is barred from ringside)

Let’s be straight, here. There’s no way that Sasha Banks is going to lose the newly won title. Especially, we should consider the fact that neither Dana Brooke nor Ric Flair is going to be present at Charlotte’s corner. We can expect a twist in the tale, though. Nikki Bella can show up to claim her title after Sasha’s win by attacking her. Or, Charlotte may very well deliver a post-match attack on the Boss which could pave the way for a permanent debut for Bayley on the main roster.

summer9

Dean Ambrose (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler (WWE World Championship)

How many of us would have thought that we end up seeing Dolph Ziggler in the WWE World Championship one-on-one match? Nobody. It’s good to see Ziggler back into the main event picture. However, there’s no way that he is going to leave Summerslam as the champion. Ambrose leading the Smackdown brand as the champion is still something fresh and he yet has to cement his legacy by retaining the title in more matches. Count on Bray Wyatt to decide the fate of the match by interference.

summer10

Finn Bálor vs. Seth Rollins (WWE Universal Championship)

It really does not matter whoever is going to win the match because these two is going carry the company for the next few years and hence they will capture the championship for multiple times, one way or the other. We will see a great match and that’s almost guaranteed. Expect a big swerve as The Club would interfere in the match to turn on their own Bullet Club fellow, Finn Balor to cost him the championship. Rollins will be the new leader of the Club to dominate Raw with everyone having gold on their waist.

summer11

Brock Lesnar (with Paul Heyman) vs. Randy Orton

After 15 long years, we will finally witness the mayor of the “Suplex City” going against the mayor of the Viperville. After we will see a galore of suplexes, DDTs, RKOs and F-5s, you will see Lesnar finally getting pinned in WWE, after three long years. Believe it or not, it can come as a clean win for Orton since Lesnar is due for a punishment after the MMA Wellness Policy Violation. This is going to be his on-screen punishment by digesting a loss either straight or by incurring a dream feud him and Goldberg. Goldberg is said to be present at the Summerslam venue and after seeing these two taking shots at each another for the last couple of days, it’s finally time for them to clash inside the ring.
