WWE: Update Regarding Shelton Benjamin’s Return To The WWE
Feb 26, 2017 at 11:48 AM
It was after the Draft when the WWE started airing the vignettes of Shelton Benjamin returning to the company after a long hiatus of more than seven years. However, it was really unfortunate that the return did not happen, at all. An unfortunate injury canceled all plans oriented with him. The former WWE superstar took his Twitter handle to let us know that he had to undergo a surgery due to a torn rotator cuff.
The surgery put him on the shelves for 5 to 6 months as suggested by him. Since then, we have not heard much about his recent condition. It was also unknown if he is continuing with the rehab process or has been cleared to start training inside the ring.
That was until the former United States champion posted some tweets stating that the recovery process is going well. But, he has not stepped into the squared circle to get into shape for in-ring actions. As per the latest tweet, he has just started weight-lifting. It means that we can’t expect him to see on Smackdown until at least Wrestlemania.
We expected that since five or six months have already passed by after his surgery, he is already getting ready for a sudden comeback but that’s not the case here. This is the reason why a surprise return to the Royal Rumble match was eliminated as well in January.
Repping out 225LBs easily for the first time in 8 months. Feels almost normal but still got work to do.

Shelton Benjamin picked up the injury during his stint in the NOAH wrestling competition in Japan in 2016. The injury was not detected serious at that time. Hence, after he signed the contract with the WWE, his promo started to air on Smackdown Live.
Recovery is going well. Still months away from anything physical so all the RR predictions are as accurate as they’ve been the last 6 years https://t.co/eb6q2YbEsJ

WWE confirmed the legitimacy of the shoulder injury after going through the routine medical check-up one has to undergo before landing on the main roster. He admitted the unfortunate incident happened due to ‘a communication and timing issue’ with the WWE.
