Daniel Sams Opens Up On Mumbai Indians Disastrous IPL 2022 Campaign

Daniel Sams, Mumbai Indians all-rounder opened up on his team’s campaign in the recently concluded Indian Premier League, saying the five-time champions didn’t perform the way they wanted to.

Mumbai Indians finished last in the IPL 2022 points table, with only four wins and as many as 10 defeats. The five-time champions were the first team to crash out of the playoffs race.

Daniel Sams Reckons Taling To Head Coach Mahela Jayawardene And Bowling Coach Shane Bond Was Helpful

The Australian further said that talking to head coach Mahela Jayawardene and bowling coach Shane Bond helped him during the tournament.

“Chatting with MJ (Mahela Jayawardene) and Bondy (Shane Bond) I found really helpful,” Sams said in a video shared by Mumbai Indians.

“There was a conversation I had with MJ just about what he did when he was struggling and he just talked about keeping it simple, being relaxed,” Sams said.

Daniel Sams ended IPL 2022 with 13 wickets in 11 matches with best figures of 4/30 and scored 38 runs. The 29-year-old was happy to have an impact on the team’s performance in the second half of the league. Daniel Sams was part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) set-up last year. He was acquired for ₹2.6 crores by Mumbai Indians at the mega auction earlier this year.

Daniel Sams Admits It’s Not Been The Most Ideal Season For Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians finished last on the IPL 2022 points table with just four wins and 10 defeats. MI recorded eight consecutive losses before opening their account in their ninth match against Rajasthan Royals. The Mumbai-based franchise was plagued by injuries, inconsistencies, and constant chop and change.

Talking about the team’s performance, Sams said, “I think it (has) not been the most ideal season. I actually see it as a necessary season for myself, for everyone to become better cricketers, better people.

“We haven’t quite performed the way we wanted to, but we’re excited about what’s to come next year. A lot of us in this squad have had to learn and deal with a lot of stuff because of the way that we have performed.”

Mumbai Indians finished off their campaign on a high as they not only defeated Delhi Capitals in their last league match but knocked Delhi out of the playoffs race.

Daniel Sams made a decent comeback after being clobbered by Pat Cummins during the clash against Kolkata Knight Riders, where the Australian Test skipper smashed Daniel Sams for 35 runs in an over. Daniel Sams was walloped for 50 runs in just three overs.

Daniel Sams picked up 13 wickets from 11 innings at an average of 28.46 while giving away 8.80 runs per over. He would also like to improve his batting numbers which were quite poor this season, scoring just 38 runs from 10 innings at an average of 5.42.

The best figures of his IPL career so far are 4/30, against Chennai Super Kings, when he dismissed four of the top five batters. In fact, Daniel Sams amassed seven wickets against CSK in the 2022 season. He took 3 for 16 in their second meeting and dismissed each of the top three – in-form Devon Conway, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Moeen Ali.

The franchise retained long-time captain Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Kieron Pollard, and Suryakumar Yadav. Mumbai then splurged handsomely to retain wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan, picking him up at the Mega Auction against Rs 15.25 crore (the highest bid for any player in IPL 2022).

Tim David, Jofra Archer, Dewald Brevis, and Daniel Sams were bought for Rs 8.25 crore, Rs 8 Crore, Rs 3 crore, and Rs 2.6 crore respectively. Jofra Archer was bid for keeping in mind the long game because he had to sit out this season due to fitness issues. Jasprit Bumrah was seemingly left alone in the fast bowler department till Daniel Sams graced the scene. However, a crippling shortage of good spinning action was felt by Mumbai.

Parthiv Patel Reckons Mentality Of Playing Big Matches Before For Mumbai Indians Will Help Hardik Pandya In Qualifier 1 Of IPL 2022

Parthiv Patel, the former India wicket-keeper believes that the experience of being part of high-stakes matches before Qualifier 1 of IPL 2022 will help Hardik Pandya.

The all-rounder will lead the Gujarat Titans (GT) in their first knockout match against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Qualifier 1 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on May 24. Having won multiple titles with Mumbai Indians and represented India across various ICC tournaments, the 28-year-old is no stranger to big matches.

Parthiv Patel Said That The Mentality Of Playing Big Matches Before Will Help Hardik Pandya In Qualifier 1 While Virender Sehwag Opined He Will Be The Player To Watch Out For

The all-rounder, assuming the captaincy role for the first time in the IPL, has been one of the standout players for the new franchise. He is having his best campaign with the bat, recording 413 runs in the league stage of the tournament. There has been a slight dip in his strike rate, which has come on the back of a change in his batting position. He has undertaken more responsibility by promoting himself up the order.

Opining that Pandya will head into Qualifier 1 with nothing but confidence, Parthiv Patel said: “The mentality of playing big matches before will help Hardik Pandya here.”

Parthiv Patel added: “It means that he has taken decisions under pressure that is not easy to make. He will go into the match confidently, there is no doubt about it.”

Opining that Hardik Pandya should play like his former self in Qualifier 1, former India batter Virender Sehwag said during the same interaction: “Hardik Pandya is the player to watch out for from GT. He has to become Kung-Fu Pandya. Come in, play 30 odd balls and score 60-70 and leave. He is also in the Indian team now, he should play with full freedom and confidence.”

GT will face the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2022 Qualifier 1 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on May 24 (Tuesday). Hardik Pandya has scored 413 runs in IPL 2022 averaging 41.3 and taken 4 scalps averaging 47.45 playing 13 games. As a first-time skipper, he has been spot on with his tactics and field placements.

He is Gujarat Titans’ leading run-getter this season. Hardik Pandya made his debut for MI in 2015 and played for them for 7 years. In that period, the franchise won 4 titles and Pandya played a big part in those wins. He was an instrumental part of MI’s success in the past. He scored 1476 runs and picked up 42 wickets for them.

Parthiv Patel: A Lot Depends On Wriddhiman Saha’s Fitness But He Should Play When There Is The Slightest Chance

In a case of concern for the league leaders, Wriddhiman Saha picked up a hamstring injury during their contest against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Matthew Wade was seen keeping the wickets in the second innings at the Wankhede Stadium on May 19.

Opining that Saha’s absence will lead to a slew of changes for GT, Parthiv Patel said: “If there are concerns surrounding Saha, then an Indian batter has to be brought in. The likely option is Sai Sudarshan. If Saha is fit, then Alzarri Joseph could also be brought in for Matthew Wade.”

Wriddhiman Saha
Wriddhiman Saha (Credits: Twitter)

“The changes will most likely be tactical. A lot relies on Saha’s fitness. If there is even the slightest chance that Saha can play, then he should at any cost.”

The 37-year-old has been in excellent touch after forging an impeccable partnership with Shubman Gill at the top of the order. He crossed the 300-run mark in an IPL season for the second time and has registered three fifties so far.

Wriddhiman Saha, the Test discard, has scored 312 runs from 9 IPL 2022 games averaging 39. He will try to amend his strike rate of 124.8 in Qualifier 1. Wriddhiman Saha didn’t keep against Royal Challengers Bangalore due to a tight hamstring. Matthew Wade replaced him behind the stumps. But Gujarat Titans team management would hope that the Bengal keeper, a solid presence in front and behind the wicket, will be fit for the 1st Qualifier.

Ricky Ponting Delivers Major Update On Rishabh Pant’s Captaincy Future After DC’s Crushing Loss To Mumbai Indians

Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting has delivered a big update on Rishabh Pant’s captaincy future following the team’s loss to Mumbai Indians on Saturday (May 21). Delhi’s long wait for their first-ever IPL title has extended for at least one more season after the loss in their final league game. Delhi entered the match knowing that their fate was in their own hands, a luxury not many teams get at this stage of the competition.

A win against Mumbai would have been enough for them to enter the playoffs. However, Rishabh Pant & Co. failed to emerge victorious in the must-win clash as Mumbai handed them a crushing a 5-wicket loss. Delhi were just not at their best as Mumbai ended their hopes of entering the playoffs. Asked to bat first, Delhi made a disastrous start with the bat before recovering to post a challenging total of 159 for 7 in 20 overs.

Rishabh Pant

Delhi bowlers then started well and had Mumbai Indians reeling at 95 for 3 in the 15th over. At that stage, Delhi were well on top and were looking set to register a win. However, hard-hitting batsman Tim David crushed their hopes by adding 50 runs for the fourth wicket in just 20 balls with Tilak Verma. The right-handed batsman smashed 34 off just 11 balls with the help of 4 sixes and 2 fours to break Delhi’s hearts. Mumbai eventually chased down the total with 5 balls remaining.

Ricky Ponting on Rishabh Pant’s future as captain:

Following the defeat, Ricky Ponting was asked about whether Pant would continue to lead the team especially after making a huge blunder against Mumbai. In the 15th over of the match, Pant decided against taking a review after Tim David nicked his very first ball of the innings and the on-field umpire did not raise his finger. Ponting, however, has ruled out any possibility of removing Pant as captain. The DC coach made it clear that there are no doubts over Pant’s future as the captain of the side.

“Absolutely, no doubt in my mind that Rishabh even in the last season he was the right choice for captain. Rishabh did a terrific job with the team after he took over from Shreyas (Iyer) after he injured his shoulders. He is just a young man and still learning captaincy. Being captain of a T20 team, especially in IPL, which is a high pressure tournament, is not easy thing to do and unfortunately, every single thing you do will be scrutinised. He certainly got my full backing,” said Ricky Ponting.

Ravi Shastri Optimistic About Mumbai Indians’ Skipper Rohit Sharma’s Chances In Their Final IPL 2022 Match

Ravi Shastri is buoyant about Rohit Sharma and Mumbai Indians’ (MI) chances in their final IPL 2022 match against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday, 21 May. He feels the amount of support the five-time champions have, including from Virat Kohli and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) fans, will help them end the season on a high.

Mumbai, the 5 time IPL champion-most by any franchise was the first team to be eliminated from the top-four race but this match is a far cry from a dead rubber in the context of the season.

If Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai wins, they’ll drown the Delhi Capitals with them and allow Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers to qualify at No. 4. Moreover, a massive win (to the tune of 91 runs or by 65 balls to spare) could also help them avoid the embarrassment of a wooden-spoon 10th spot finish as well.

Ravi Shastri Reckons RCB Fans Will Be Supporting Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians

In an interaction, Ravi Shastri was asked whether Rohit Sharma, who hasn’t managed a half-century this season yet, will be able to continue his unique record of getting that milestone at least once in every season.

Ravi Shastri replied: “What more do Mumbai Indians need for Rohit Sharma? Rohit Sharma fans, Virat Kohli fans, RCB fans are all with him. Virat Kohli scored 50 in the last game, if Rohit scores 50-60 then at least, [it will help them end the season nicely]. Mumbai Indians are not habitual of finishing last. They have lost 10 matches. If they lose tomorrow, it will make it 11 losses from 14 games which they don’t want so they’ll try to win. If Rohit gets going we all know what he can do as an opener in white-ball cricket.”

Rohit Sharma boasts a good record against Delhi Capitals. In 31 matches, the 35-year-old has scored 910 runs against them at an average of 32.50. The Mumbai Indians team has played 13 games so far, winning 3 and losing 10. With 6 points and a net run rate of -0.577, Mumbai is already eliminated from the playoffs.

Rohit Sharma is the skipper of Mumbai Indians and will lead the team in the final match of the tournament as well if he is not rested. The right-handed batsman has struggled to bat well throughout the IPL 2022 tournament. However, he scored a brilliant knock of 48 runs in the last match. In 13 games so far, Rohit Sharma has scored 266 runs at an average of 20.46. He will open the innings for the team.

Ravi Shastri: It’s Good For The Future If Arjun Tendulkar Is Given A Chance And He Does Well In His Debut IPL Match

When asked if young left-arm pacer Arjun Tendulkar has a chance to play in the match, Ravi Shastri replied with a succinct “why not?”. The former India coach added that the youngster has “decent” skills and despite shouldering the pressure of being the legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s son, might be one for the future.

Ravi Shastri said: “Why not? I have seen him in the nets. The Tendulkar name is a big name and he has very big boots to fill. But he bowls ‘theek thaak’ (decent), swings the new ball into the batters and is tall so gets the bounce too. So why not? If they have lost 11 matches then why does it matter? If they give Arjun a chance and if he does well in his first match it’s good for the future.”

The 22-year-old youngster, son of the legendary former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has featured in two T20s for the Mumbai state team, picking up two wickets at an economy rate of 9.57. Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun Tendulkar is making all the right noises to debut in the 2022 Indian Premier League’s last match against Delhi. The franchise Mumbai Indians had snapped up him for Rs 30 lakh in the IPL 2022 mega auctions.

The young left-arm seamer Arjun Tendulkar has been part of the Mumbai Indians squad as a net bowler for the last few years. He was also picked up by the Mumbai-based franchise in the auction for the 2021 IPL. He didn’t get a game in the previous edition but the five-time champions again added him to the 2022 squad.

Mahela Jayawardene Feels Tilak Varma Is The Standout Player In IPL 2022 For Mumbai Indians

Mahela Jayawardene, Mumbai Indians head coach heaped praise on young player Tilak Varma for his batting performances in the ongoing IPL 2022 edition. The former Sri Lankan skipper believes Tilak Varma has adapted well to different roles and the demands of the franchise’s difficult situation.

Right-handed batter Tilak Varma is currently the highest run-getter for the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2022. The southpaw has scored 376 runs in 11 matches at an average of 37.60, striking at 131.46 with two fifties. His best of 61 came against the Rajasthan Royals at D.Y. Patil Stadium.

Mahela Jayawardene Feels Tilak Varma Is The Standout Player For Mumbai Indians

Speaking at a press conference ahead of Saturday’s game, Mahela Jayawardene believes Tilak Varma has been the standout player for them, hailing him for responding well to the challenges of the bowling and conditions.

The 44-year old said: “Yeah, I think if you pick on individuals I think Tilak is the standout, scoring almost 400 runs. He’d been asked to do few different roles for us this year, batting at three, batting at four, even at five, and finished a game recently. I think the process for him, he’s been challenging himself in different situations against good bowling units. He’s responded well and shown lots of good qualities along the way.”

Nevertheless, the 22-year-old’s knock against the Rajasthan Royals came in a losing cause as the five-time champions fell 23 runs short of the target. Chasing 194, Tilak Varma’s presence kept them afloat; however, his wicket turned the tables on the Mumbai Indians.

Mahela Jayawardene Is Happy With The Way Youngsters Reacted To Situations And Feels They’ve Learnt A Lot

Mahela Jayawardene also believes that the youngsters performing well have justified their selections. The Sri Lankan legend feels exceeding their expectations in such a competitive tournament gives the upcoming players plenty of options for the future.

“At the auction, we made a conscious effort of bringing in youngsters into the squad and we knew that they are talented and exciting prospects. During the season, we had the opportunity to give them games, sometimes in the season where we haven’t been able to. Through that, they have put their hands up and performed.”

Mumbai Indians

He continued: “It’s great for us to see how they handle pressure, how they are in the middle, especially in IPL cricket it’s not easy. So, overall very happy with the way those young guys have reacted to those situations. They’ve learnt a lot and we’ve learnt a lot about them. As a franchise, moving forward, it gives us a lot of options in how we need to rebuild the team.”

Mumbai Indians, who are out of the playoffs race, will face the Delhi Capitals in their final match on Saturday, May 21.  In the earlier encounter between both teams, DC won the match. Tilak Varma has been the find of the season for MI, playing at different positions in the batting order but racking up runs on a consistent basis.

Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene was brutally honest in his assessment after their early exit from the IPL, saying they failed to take control of crucial moments and did not play good cricket. Mumbai is likely to end up last on the points table even if they manage to win their last game against Delhi Capitals on Saturday.

Arjun Tendulkar could finally get a game as MI face DC in their last league game of the season at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Mumbai Indians should now look at resting some of their key players, including captain Rohit Sharma, pacer Jasprit Bumrah, and keeper Ishan Kishan and give younger players a chance in their place considering they are out of the race for the playoffs. Sidelined for illness recently, DC’s in-form opening batter Prithvi Shaw is expected to be fine for the game against MI.

Arjun Tendulkar To Finally Make His IPL Debut? Fans Urge Mumbai Indians To Give Youngster A Chance

When will Arjun Tendulkar make his debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL)? This question has been doing the rounds in the Indian cricket fraternity for months now. Earlier this year, Mumbai Indians once again signed up Arjun in the IPL mega auction. The five-time champions spent Rs 30 lakhs for the services of Tendulkar junior. Arjun was part of Mumbai Indians’ squad for last year’s IPL too but did not get to play any match.

In the ongoing season too, he is yet to play for his team even though Mumbai Indians are well out of the playoffs race. Mumbai Indians had lost their first eight games to find themselves out of the playoffs race. Throughout the season, the Mumbai Indians team management has tried different combinations in their playing eleven but Arjun still could not make the cut. Earlier in the season, Mumbai head coach Mahela Jayawardene was asked about Arjun’s chances of playing in IPL 2022.

In reply, the former Sri Lanka captain had said that there was no particular reason for the team to not play Arjun. Jayawardene had insisted that Arjun would be given a chance in the playing eleven if he is one of the ‘best guys’ in the team. Jayawardene said that Arjun’s chances of playing would depend on the team combination.

“Well, I think everyone in the squad is an option. We will see how things go. It is about match-ups and how we can win the matches and our priority is to make sure that we get the right match-ups. Every game is a confidence thing, we managed to get our first win and it is about stringing wins together and get the confidence back. It is about putting the best guys in the park. If Arjun is one of them, then we will consider it, yes, but it all depends on the combination that we put out,” Jayawardene had said.

Fans urge Mumbai Indians to give Arjun Tendulkar a chance:

With nothing left in the competition for Mumbai Indians, fans have urged the franchise to give Arjun Tendulkar a chance in their playing eleven for the remaining two games. At present, Mumbai are languishing at the bottom of the points table with just 3 wins from 12 games. Mumbai Indians have only pride to play for. In such a scenario, the fans have asked the franchise to finally give Arjun a chance. The fans voiced their opinion after Mumbai Indians’ Twitter handle posted a photo of the youngster on the social media.

Here are some of the reactions from the fans:

“Well, I think everyone in the squad is an option. We will see how things go. It is about match-ups and how we can win the matches and our priority is to make sure that we get the right match-ups,” Jayawardene said, as quoted by India Today.

“Every game is a confidence thing, we managed to get our first win and it is about stringing wins together and get the confidence back. It is about putting the best guys in the park. If Arjun is one of them, then we will consider it, yes, but it all depends on the combination that we put out,” Jayawardene further said.

Jasprit Bumrah Recalls Troubling Ricky Ponting At Nets Which Paved the Way For His Debut For Mumbai Indians In 2013

Jasprit Bumrah began his Indian Premier League (IPL) career with the Mumbai Indians (MI) in 2013. Jasprit Bumrah’s unorthodox action drew instant attention in the cricket fraternity and his stock rose, courtesy of his consistent performances with the ball.

In the previous edition of the tournament, he broke into the list of top-10 highest wicket-takers in IPL and currently stands at 10th position with 130 dismissals to his name in 106 matches.

His brilliant performances for MI eventually paved the way for international selection in 2016. Over the years, Jasprit Bumrah cemented his place as one of the few all-format players in the team and is widely regarded as one of the most lethal fast bowlers in international cricket.

Jasprit Bumrah Recalls Troubling Ricky Ponting At Nets Which Paved the Way For His Debut For Mumbai Indians

During a conversation with fellow Indian teammate and leading off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah opened up on his first call-up to the Mumbai Indians camp. The 28-year-old revealed that he had troubled Ricky Ponting with his deliveries during a net session.

“Basically, I had gone into the Mumbai Indians camp and I was not going to play the first game because I and Axar Patel had joined the camp late. We were playing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. We had been called late to the camp,” Bumrah began.

“The team was already practicing in Bangalore and we practiced with the team only for two days. Over there, the practice wickets were very green, and back then in 2013, the white ball used to swing. So, I was bowling with the new ball.

“I was bowling to Ricky Ponting and I used to bowl those big inswingers. I troubled everyone and I got him (Ponting) out two or three times, so they had a discussion on me that ‘this guy had something different and let’s play him’,” Bumrah said on Ashwin’s official YouTube channel.

Jasprit Bumrah came into the limelight after his sensational debut season with Mumbai Indians in 2013, the pace spearhead instantly got attention for his unorthodox action and toe-crushing yorkers. He went to make his international debut in 2016 and is one of the best fast bowlers in recent times across formats.

Jasprit Bumrah has revealed that he got Ricky Ponting out 2-3 times before making his IPL debut. Ricky Ponting was the captain of the side at the start of IPL 2013. Jasprit Bumrah first played for MI in a league stage game against Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2013. Even though he was released by MI the next year, the franchise roped him again. He has never been in an IPL auction since then

Jasprit Bumrah Didn’t Realize He Had An Unorthodox Bowling Action

The fast bowler further admitted that he never realized that he had an unorthodox action until then.

“I didn’t realize that the action was that fascinating and eventually, people started to analyse that. But for me, as I told you, I was more interested in getting new things. I have that big inswinger but I didn’t have that outswinger.

“Since childhood, I wanted to be able to bowl all deliveries. I enjoyed all of those deliveries as a child, I was never interested in watching big sixes or high-scoring games. I was interested in watching stumps being rattled, people getting hit. But yes, not getting seriously hit!” said Bumrah.

Jasprit Bumrah’s loyal association with Mumbai Indians continues as the franchise retained him ahead of the upcoming season. The 28-year-old has been one of the most consistent pacers in IPL history since his debut as he has claimed 130 wickets in 106 matches.

In 2018, he was retained for a mega sum of Rs 7 crore. MI retained him for Rs 12 crore before IPL 2022 mega auction.

Jasprit Bumrah Reckons Rohit Sharma’s Trust In Him Helped Him During Early Days At Mumbai Indians

Jasprit Bumrah said Rohit Sharma’s trust in him helped him a lot through his early years at Mumbai Indians, saying he still shares a wonderful relationship with his India captain.

Jasprit Bumrah said Rohit Sharma’s backing during the early stages of his career at Mumbai Indians helped him develop confidence and evolve as a bowler. Jasprit Bumrah said he started playing for the 5-time champions in the Indian Premier League regularly under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy after getting picked by MI as early as 2013.

Jasprit Bumrah Reckons He Got Freedom To Play Under MI Skipper Rohit Sharma

Speaking to Ravichandran Ashwin on his YouTube show, Jasprit Bumrah said his relationship with Rohit Sharma has been the same from the early stages of his career, and the trust the skipper had in him played a big role in his career.

The highly-rated India fast bowler said the relationship has evolved to a stage where Rohit Sharma allows him to have control over his field placements and bowling plans for Mumbai Indians.

Jasprit Bumrah made his IPL debut in 2013 but he became a regular fixture of MI’s plans only in 2016 after making his India debut. The Gujarat fast bowler has grown to become an integral member of the Mi side, picking up 130 wickets in 106 matches.

“It’s been very good (Relationship) since the early days. When I came into the side, Ricky Ponting was the captain but I was not playing regularly. But under Rohit, I did. He had a lot of confidence in me, he instilled confidence,” Bumrah said.

“He saw me bowling in the nets and the skills that I have. He always backed me, told me to believe in myself. Whenever in the initial stages as well, he had a lot of trust in me. He would give me the important overs. It’s been the same relationship.”

“Now we have reached a stage he doesn’t even tell me things. He will tell ‘you set the field on your own, if you have any changes, tell me, I will do that’. He has had that trust because I have made things work. Somedays, things might not go well, but he always has kept the atmosphere in our team very simple and calm.”

“Under him, I have got the freedom to do whatever I want. That has really helped me.”

Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah dismissed the popular notion that he learned the trick of the trades from the IPL, adding that domestic cricket helped him a lot.

Jasprit Bumrah Reckons Shane Bond Pushed Him Out Of His Comfort Zone

Jasprit Bumrah highlighted the role of bowling coach Shane Bond in helping him learn new things by going out of his comfort zone during his early days at the Mumbai Indians.

“And when I reached Mumbai Indians, I had a set template of playing T20 cricket which got me here. So I thought I will stick to it and I thought if I chance, I might lose the things I have.”

“When I went there, Shane Bond and the Mumbai Indians set-up taught me how to plan and analyze for different batters. When I started, I had 2-3 deliveries. I did not know what field to have when. I used to say ‘I am going to bowl this delivery, you set the field accordingly because I did not know where the ball would be good because my accuracy was still in development.”

“But at MI, I started understanding these things, started planning on my own. I started studying my own game. I realized that people are preparing for me, so I have to have things that are out of the syllabus or out of the thought process of the batter.”

“For instance, I can’t bowl a slower ball because of the dew. I developed the slower yorker. Trying different things and gaining the confidence to execute it came at MI. Shane Bond pushed me out of my comfort zone and try new things. He put me under pressure, saying the things I have not done,” he said.

Jasprit Bumrah, who the franchise retained as the second player for INR 12 crore before IPL 2022, has never worn another shirt than the Mumbai Indians. In his 106-match career, he has picked 130 wickets at 23.04 with an economy rate of 7.42. Mumbai Indians retained Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Kieron Pollard, Suryakumar Yadav.

IPL 2022: Other Franchises Object To Mumbai Indians’ Home Advantage

As the BCCI is all set to release the final schedule of the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), some reports suggest that other franchises have expressed reservations over Mumbai Indians’ home advantage as they will get some matches at Wankhede Stadium.

Notable that IPL 2022 is likely to be played across 4 stadiums in Mumbai and Pune. Wankhede Stadium, Brabourne Stadium, Reliance Stadium in Navi Mumbai, and Maharashtra Cricket Ground Pune are the four venues that have been finalized for the league stage.

But other franchises want that Mumbai Indians shouldn’t get games at Wankhede Stadium as it would be unfair to other teams, like in IPL 2021 when none of the teams played at their home venue.

“It will be unfair if MI play a lot of their matches at Wankhede in IPL 2022”

None of the other teams are getting home matches. It will be unfair if MI play a lot of their matches at Wankhede, which has been their den for years. The franchises have raised this concern. The franchises don’t have an issue with Mumbai Indians play bulk of their matches at DY Patil stadium and in Pune.

“Even the Brabourne stadium is fine. Hopefully, the BCCI will look into the matter,” a franchise source said as per TOI.

The idea to organize the whole league stage is to avoid air travel which was supposed to be the biggest reason for the Covid outbreak last season.

“Air travel of so many teams is the biggest threat of an outbreak. BCCI doesn’t really want to take chances. The first objective is to complete the league in time in India. No one can predict when another wave may start,” a BCCI official said.

BCCI is also considering the possibility of allowing some fans in the stadium as Covid cases keep going down. The tournament is likely to begin in the last week of March and will go on till the last week of May.
