Harbhajan Singh Reckons Rajasthan Royals Could Have Done A Lot Of Things Differently In The IPL 2022 Final Against Winners Gujarat

Harbhajan Singh reckons IPL 2022 runners-up Rajasthan Royals (RR) could have done a lot of things differently in the IPL 2022 final against eventual winners Gujarat Titans (GT).

The Rajasthan Royals managed a below-par score of 130-9 after winning the toss and opting to bat first. Hardik Pandya’s side then chased down the target with seven wickets and almost two overs to spare.

Harbhajan Singh Reckons Rajasthan Royals Could Have Done A Lot Of Things Differently In The IPL 2022 Final

During a discussion, Harbhajan Singh was asked if Rajasthan Royals could have done anything different in the title decider to which he said that he had expected Rajasthan to bowl first after winning the toss and could have played according to the situation demanded besides blaming them on poor shot selection.

He responded: “They could have done a lot of things differently. Firstly, I felt they should have chased, but they chose to bat first, and then they played some shots, which they will think should not have been played; they should have played according to the situation.”

The former India off-spinner highlighted the Rajasthan Royals’ dependency on England opener Jos Buttler in the batting department.

He elaborated:“They should have strung partnerships; 160 runs are enough in a final. They did not bat well. This team’s players were overly dependent on Jos Buttler, and that is what happened; they got exposed when Jos Buttler didn’t fire.”

Jos Buttler, who won the IPL 2022 Orange Cap, was dismissed for 39 in the final. None of the other RR batters could even cross the 25-run mark, with Butler’s fellow opener Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 22 being the second-highest score.

Harbhajan Singh Admits Rajasthan Royals Over Dependency On Jos Butler And Yuzvendra Chahal

Harbhajan Singh added that Rajasthan Royals were too dependent on Yuzvendra Chahal in the bowling department.

He explained: “When they look back, Jos Buttler did 80% of the job in the batting, and similarly 70-75% job was done by Yuzi Chahal in the bowling, so the others did 20-25% only in total; that’s not enough.”

While lauding Sanju Samson’s side for reaching the final, the cricketer-turned-commentator concluded by observing that the better team won on the day.

Harbhajan Singh said: “I think they could have played much better. Yes, they played the final, played very well to reach here, but I think Gujarat was the better team, and that’s the reason they were at the top.”

While Orange Cap holder Jos Buttler amassed 863 runs for Rajasthan Royals, Sanju Samson was a distant second with 458 runs. Purple Cap holder Yuzvendra Chahal, with 27 scalps, was RR’s star performer with the ball, although he did get decent support from the other bowlers.

Jos Buttler has finished the season with 863 runs, which is more than the 848 that David Warner managed in 2016. He has finished almost exactly 110 runs behind Royal Challengers Bangalore’s ex-skipper Virat Kohli’s 2016 tally of 973 runs, which remains the highest that any batter has managed in a season. Having scored four centuries, Jos Buttler is also tied for most tons in a season, which is tied with Virat Kohli’s record that was set in 2016.

Hardik Pandya grabbed 3-17 with impeccable medium-fast bowling to restrict Rajasthan to 130-9 after Sanju Samson won the toss and chose to bat. The GT skipper then made a crucial 34 off 30 balls as Gujarat scored 133-3 in 18.1 overs.

Brief ScoresGujarat Titans 133/3 (Shubman Gill 45*, Hardik Pandya 34; Trent Boult 1-14) beat Rajasthan Royals 130/9 (Jos Buttler 39, Yashasvi Jaiswal 22; Hardik Pandya 3-17) by 7 wickets.

Twitter Goes Wild As Debutants Gujarat Titans Thrash Rajasthan Royals To Win IPL 2022

Gujarat Titans thrashed Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets in the final of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 to lift the title. The Titans also became the second team after the Royals to win the title in their inaugural season.

Chasing 131, the Titans crossed the finishing line in the 19th over. Shubman Gill was the top-scorer for the IPL champions after playing an unbeaten knock of 45. The debutants were off to a poor start. Wriddhiman Saha (5) and Matthew Wade (8) could not get going, leaving their team reeling at 23 for 2 in the 5th over.

But before the Royals could inflict further damage, Gill and Hardik Pandya steadied the ship. The duo shared a crucial 63-run stand for the third wicket to put Titans in control.

Yuzvendra Chahal broke the stand by dismissing Pandya for 34. And while Gill and Pandya steadied the ship, the team was still struggling to score quickly before David Miller arrived.

The in-form batsman played a quickfire knock of 32 off just 19 balls while sharing an unbeaten stand of 46 runs with Gill to seal the game. The match ended on the first ball of the 19th over when Gill hit Obed McCoy for a six.

Titans restrict Royals to a modest total:

Earlier in the game, Titans did well to restrict high-flying Royals to a modest total of 130 for 9. The Royals had entered the final after an impressive batting display in the second qualifier.

However, they could not sustain the momentum with the bat in the title-decider. Jos Buttler, who had scored a century in the second qualifier, could not get going in the final. The England superstar scored 39 but used 35 balls for it.

Buttler was the top-scorer for his team. The likes of Sanju Samson (14), Devdutt Padikkal (2) and Shimron Hetmyer (11) failed to deliver too as the Royals posted an under par score in the final.

For the Titans, their skipper Hardik Pandya was the star of the show with the ball. Leading from the front, Pandya picked up 3 wickets while giving away just 17 runs off his 4 overs. Rashid Khan also put up a good show, conceding just 18 off his 4 while picking up 1 wicket.

‘The Best Allrounder’: Twitter Goes Berserk As Hardik Pandya Blows Rajasthan Royals Away With Stunning Spell

Hardik Pandya, on Sunday, starred with the ball to put his team well on top against Rajasthan Royals in the final of the IPL 2022. Thanks to his stunning display with the ball, the high-flying Royals could only post 130 for 9 in the allotted 20 overs.

Playing their first-ever final in IPL, the Titans needed their captain to lead them from the front and he did not disappoint. The match did not really start on a good note for Titans as Pandya lost the toss and his team was invited to ball first.

But it did not matter much as Pandya led his troop brilliantly while leading the charge with the ball. The allrounder not only picked up three crucial wickets to derail Royals’ innings but was also highly economical.

The Titans skipper gave away just 17 runs off his 4 overs and picked up the huge wickets of Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson and Shimron Hetmyer. Pandya’s first victim of the night was Samson. The Royals skipper was looking in good touch and had already hit two fours before Pandya cut short his stay at the crease.

Samson returned after scoring only 14. After that, he dismissed Buttler who entered the match on the back of a stunning century in the second qualifier. Buttler was finding it tough to score runs at a good pace and before he could open his arms in the second half of the innings, Pandya sent him packing.

The Royals opener returned to the pavilion after scoring only 39 runs from 35 balls. Pandya then ended Royals’ faint hopes of finishing their innings on a good note by dismissing Hetmyer for just 11.

Twitter lauds Hardik Pandya:

As Hardik Pandya starred with the ball against the Royals, the cricket world showered praise on him. The social media has been flooded with messages from fans and experts, lavishing praise on the star allrounder.

Here are some of the messages for Hardik Pandya:

Sanjay Manjrekar Backs Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) In-form Batter Jos Buttler To Score Big In IPL 2022 Final

Sanjay Manjrekar, ex-India batter has backed Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) in-form batter Jos Buttler to do well against Gujarat Titans (GT) in the all-important IPL 2022 final. A season of 400-plus runs is considered a good one for a batter and Jos Buttler has doubled it with one match to go.

Jos Buttler started off the IPL 2022 season with three centuries and a couple of fifties but went through a quiet period but lifted his game back in time for knockouts to eliminate Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) single-handedly. If Jos Buttler fires in the final, RR will get a good score or chase down easily if they are batting second.

Sanjay Manjrekar pointed out that Jos Buttler was in tremendous form in the first half of this year’s edition but struggled to find rhythm later in the tournament. However, he showed his class once again with his match-winning knock against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Qualifier 2.

Sanjay Manjrekar Is Certain That Rajasthan’s Jos Buttler Will Score Valuable Runs In IPL 2022 Final

The former India batsman opined that GT bowlers must find a way to stop the swashbuckling batter as he has the ability to take the game away by scoring big runs. Sanjay Manjrekar made these remarks ahead of the summit clash.

“I feel Jos Buttler will fire in the final as well. It has been an interesting season for him but he has shown his class. He was in brilliant form in the first seven games and then had a slump in the other half. But he bounced back and singlehandedly won RR the game against RCB. I am a 100 percent sure that he will score big and GT will need to do something to stop him.

Jos Buttler

Jos Buttler took the RCB bowlers to the cleaners in their crucial IPL 2022 playoffs clash (Qualifier 2). The right-hander, with his unbeaten knock of 106, guided his team to a decisive 7-wicket victory in the knockout fixture.

It is worth mentioning that the opener is currently the leading run-scorer of the season and Orange Cap holder. The dynamic batter has amassed as much as 824 runs from 16 IPL 2022 games, including four stunning centuries-the joint most with Virat Kohli in IPL history. Earlier, Virat Kohli held the record with four centuries to his name in 2016. In the same year, he scored 973 runs, which is the highest by any player in the history of IPL.

Sanjay Manjrekar Wants Rajasthan To Use Prasidh Krishna And Trent Boult In The First 6 Powerplay Overs And Not To Rely On Spin Duo Ravichandran Ashwin And Yuzvendra Chahal

The 56-year-old analyst and commentator further added that RR will not rely on the spin duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin in the final. Yuzvendra Chahal was wicketless and returned with figures of 0/45 against RCB in Qualifier 2 and 0/32 against GT in Qualifier 1.

He highlighted that the wicket in Ahmedabad hasn’t turned much and hence the side will want their seamers to step up. Sanjay Manjrekar suggested that Rajasthan will want Prasidh Krishna and Trent Boult to make the new ball count so that there is less pressure on them in the death overs.

“We had earlier thought that Yuzvendra Chahal and the other spinners would be the game changers for RR. Their death bowling, on the other hand, was a bit of a lottery. But they have found a new formula and can surely make the most of it on this pitch.”

“They can use Prasidh Krishna and Trent Boult in the first six overs and make sure that they do enough damage to reduce the pressure on death bowlers. They won’t be dependent just on Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal. Moreover, the wicket hasn’t turned much and seamers will be their best bet.”

RR and GT will lock horns in the highly anticipated IPL 2022 final on Sunday, May 29. The contest will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and is scheduled to begin at 8:00 PM IST.

IPL 2022: Emotional Jos Buttler Pays Heartfelt Tribute To Shane Warne After Taking Rajasthan Royals To Final

Jos Buttler paid a touching tribute to legendary Shane Warne after powering Rajasthan Royals to the final of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). The right-handed batsman scored a stunning century to help the Royals beat Royal Challengers Bangalore in the second qualifier.

The Royals beat RCB by seven wickets to storm into the final where they will lock horns against Gujarat Titans. This will be Royals’ first appearance in the final since their first-ever captain Warne led them to the title in the inaugural season in 2008.

Earlier this month, Warne passed away after suffering a suspected cardiac arrest and Buttler made sure to pay him a heartfelt tribute after leading Royals to the final. The England superstar was the Man of the Match for his unbeaten century.

The hard-hitting batsman slammed an unbeaten 106 as Royals chased down the total with 11 balls remaining. Buttler’s knock came off 60 balls and was studded with 10 fours and 6 sixes. Thanks to his knock, the Royals chased down 158 by losing just 3 wickets and 11 balls remaining.

Following the game, Jos Buttler made sure to remember Warne on the special occasion. Expressing his excitement over playing in his first IPL final, Buttler said that the Royals would dearly miss Warne.

“Great excitement to be able to play in the final of the biggest T20 tournament in the world.. it’s incredibly exciting. Shane Warne has been such an influential figure for Rajasthan Royals and having led the team to the title in the first season. We will miss him dearly but we know he is looking down on us with a lot of pride today,” Buttler told Star Sports.

Jos Buttler leading run-scorer:

Jos Buttler is now the leading run-scorer in IPL 2022 after his fourth ton of the season. He also became only the second batsman after Virat Kohli and David Warner to score 800 or more runs in a single IPL season.

Buttler is also only the second player after Kohli to score 4 centuries in a single season. Kohli was the first player to achieve this feat in 2016. Buttler will have a chance to break the India star’s record in the upcoming final.

Virat Kohli Will Go Big In Qualifier 2 Against Rajasthan Royals: Marnus Labuschagne

Virat Kohli may not be leading Royal Challengers Bangalore in the ongoing IPL 2022, yet the focus would be on him when RCB takes on Rajasthan Royals in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on Friday for Qualifier 2. With a ticket to the finale at stake, there is all to play for. While predictions are being made, Australia’s premier batter Marnus Labuschagne passed his verdict during a Twitter poll.

After 62 days of riveting action in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, the tournament is down to just three teams. Gujarat Titans, who had emerged as the table toppers, have reached the final and wait for the winner of Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore in Qualifier 2, which will be played on Friday.

Virat Kohli Will Go Big Tweets Marnus Labuschagne

Ahead of the big game in Ahmedabad, an Australian cricket star Marnus Labuschagne ran a poll on Twitter on who will win the IPL trophy this season, before giving his verdict on the same.

Marnus Labuschagne took to Twitter on Thursday to post a Twitter poll on “Who wins the IPL from here? #IPL2022”. And when asked by a fan who he supports, Marnus Labuschagne backed RCB to emerge as the winner this season. “RCB – @imVkohli will go big,” he tweeted.

Virat Kohli has not been in the best form in the ongoing IPL 2022. He has been dismissed thrice for golden duck which does not show the potential of the ex-India captain. He has recently shown some form as he got a fifty against Gujarat ahead of the Eliminator. RCB would dearly hope Virat Kohli gets among the runs as he would be a key player in the Qualifier 2 contest.

Virat Kohli scored a fluent 73 off 54 balls against the Gujarat Titans (GT) in RCB’s last league match. He was also involved in an opening partnership of 115 with RCB skipper Faf du Plessis (44 off 38). Virat Kohli was retained ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction for INR 15 crores. He is the team’s 2nd highest run-getter this season with 334 runs averaging a mere 23.86 in 15 games which doesn’t depict a good picture going by his caliber and credentials.

60.6 percent of the poll users so far voted in favour of RCB, followed by Gujarat Titans (20) and Rajasthan (19.4).

RCB reached Qualifier 2 after defeating Lucknow Super Giants by 14 runs in the IPL 2022 Playoffs Eliminator on Wednesday. RCB scored 207/4 in the first innings, courtesy of an unbeaten 112-run knock in 54 balls by Rajat Patidar.

While Virat Kohli scored 25 runs in 24 balls, Dinesh Karthik remained unbeaten on 37 off 23 balls. Josh Hazlewood’s 3/43 in four overs helped RCB to restrict LSG at 193/6 and take the team through to the next game.

Royal Challengers Bangalore Is Yet To Win IPL

RCB is among the few teams who are yet to win the IPL trophy. They have qualified for the playoffs eight times and reached the final three times, the last being in 2016.

In 2022, RCB finished fourth in the league stage, with eight wins in 14 games. Faf du Plessis’ men then defeated Lucknow Super Giants in the Eliminator earlier this week at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata by 14 runs to make the second stage in the IPL playoffs.

RCB had earlier failed to cross the Eliminator hurdle in two consecutive seasons, losing to Sunrisers Hyderabad by 6 wickets in 2020 and to Kolkata Knight Riders by 4 wickets in 2021.

However, Rajat Patidar’s sensation century and Harshal Patel’s impressive death-over bowling helped RCB make the Qualifier 2 with the IPL 2022 final and the trophy still in sight.

Virender Sehwag Reckons Devdutt Padikkal’s Stint With Bangalore Could Help Rajasthan Royals In IPL 2022

Virender Sehwag, former Indian opening batter believes Devdutt Padikkal’s stint with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) could help Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Qualifier 2. The two franchises will face each other on Friday for a spot in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 final against the Gujarat Titans (GT).

The 22-year-old ventured onto the scene following a successful tenure with the three-time finalists. The youngster was adjudged the Emerging Player of the Year for his exploits in his maiden full season. He scored 473 runs at the top of the order, which included five fifties. After being released by the franchise following another successful IPL 2021, where he scored his first ton, Devdutt Padikkal was roped in by RR for a price of ₹7.75 crores.

Virender Sehwag: Devdutt Padikkal Is The Player To Watch Out For As He Has Played Against RCB’s Bowling Attack At Nets

Devdutt Padikkal was acquired by Royal Challengers Bangalore for INR 20 lacs at the player auction prior to IPL 2019 and that proved to be a game-changer. In his debut season in 2020, he amassed 473 runs with 5 fifties and in 2021, he scored 411 runs with 1 century and 1 fifty. In IPL 2022, he has scored 365 runs in 15 games averaging 24.33 with 1 fifty.

Opining that Devdutt Padikkal’s experience facing the likes of Mohammad Siraj and Harshal Patel in the nets could prove to be useful, Virender Sehwag said: “Devdutt Padikkal is the player to watch out for. He has played against this bowling attack for around 2-3 years in the nets.”

Virender Sehwag

Devdutt Padikkal has had a lukewarm IPL 2022 campaign so far after being deployed largely in the middle order. The left-handed batter is on the cusp of scoring over 400 runs for the third consecutive IPL season.

Royal Challengers Bangalore Has An Advantage In Qualifier 2: Both Virender Sehwag And Parthiv Patel Backs Bangalore To Win

RR finds itself in a do-or-die situation following a loss against GT in Qualifier 1 at the Eden Gardens. Their opponents, RCB, made it to Qualifier 2 after a high-octane win over the Lucknow Super Giants.

Believing that RCB has momentum on their side on the back of a solid display against the KL Rahul-led side, Sehwag said: “The way RCB played, the advantage is definitely with them for Qualifier 2. There is no doubt about it. But they will have to play in a similar fashion.”

A memorable hundred by Rajat Patidar followed by a spirited bowling display, especially in the death overs, paved the way for a 14-run RCB win in the Eliminator in their third successive attempt. Rajat Patidar scored a scintillating unbeaten 112, laced by 12 fours and seven sixes, at a staggering strike rate of 207.41 to power RCB to 207/4.

RCB outsmarted LSG by 14 runs as Harshal Patel (1/25) and Josh Hazlewood (3/43) bowled brilliantly in the slog overs. LSG skipper KL Rahul scored 79 off 58 balls but perished in the penultimate over to Josh Hazlewood.

Agreeing that Royal Challengers are favorites since they have a win under their belt, former India wicket-keeper Parthiv Patel said: “RCB have the advantage because they head into the contest on the back of a win, while RR lost. RCB have momentum with them, RR do not.”

The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will host its first match of the season when RCB will face RR for a spot in the final on May 27 (Friday).

Aakash Chopra Predicts Faf du Plessis Will Score In The Eliminator Against Rajasthan Royals

Aakash Chopra has made his predictions for the IPL 2022 Qualifier 2 clash between the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and the Rajasthan Royals (RR).

Faf du Plessis and Sanju Samson’s sides will cross swords at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday (May 27). The winner of the game will take on the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the title decider.

Aakash Chopra Predicts Faf du Plessis, Rajat Patidar, Jos Buttler, And Devdutt Padikkal To Score Fifties in Qualifier 2

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra predicted Royal Challengers Bangalore’s skipper Faf du Plessis and Eliminator’s centurion Rajat Patidar to be amongst the runs.

He explained: “Faf du Plessis and Rajat Patidar will together score more than 60 runs. I am not thinking Rajat Patidar will be scoring 80-90 runs here. I think he will be dismissed eventually, Yuzi Chahal might trap him but he will score runs. Faf will not get out for a zero this time, he will score some runs.”

Rajat Patidar

The former India batter also expects decent contributions from Orange cap holder Jos Buttler and in form Devdutt Padikkal for the Rajasthan Royals. Jos Buttler has had a tremendous run this year with the bat, scoring 718 runs in 15 innings at 51.29 and a strike rate of 148.35. Jos Buttler scored three centuries this year and is the leading run-scorer of the tournament (Orange Cap holder).

Aakash Chopra elaborated: “Jos and Devdutt will together score more than 60 runs. Devdutt has batted well this entire season and Jos has finally got his form back. You will not say that Jos does not have form now. So you will expect more than 60 runs from them.”

Jos Buttler and Devdutt Padikkal managed a total of 15 runs in the last meeting between the two sides. However, the current Orange Cap holder had scored an unbeaten 70 in RR’s first clash against RCB.

Rajasthan Royals lost their previous match of IPL 2022, Qualifier 1, to Gujarat Titans. Batting first, RR posted a decent total of 188-6. Jos Buttler hit a fabulous knock of 89 runs while Sanju Samson scored 47. Gujarat’s Hardik Pandya and David Miller scored unbeaten 40 and 68 respectively and grabbed the victory for GT by 7 wickets.

Royal Challengers Bangalore stole a victory by 14 runs against Lucknow Super Giants in the Eliminator match of IPL 2022. Batting first in the match, RCB slammed a mammoth 207-4 total with Rajat Patidar’s marvelous 112 not-out.

RCB skipper Faf du Plessis, however, was dismissed for a golden duck off Mohsin’s Khan bowling, departing in the penultimate delivery of the first over after nicking the ball to keeper Quinton de Kock.

Aakash Chopra Predicted Wanindu Hasaranga And Yuzvendra Chahal To Pick More Than 3 Scalps

Aakash Chopra predicted Wanindu Hasaranga and Yuzvendra Chahal to be amongst the wickets. Yuzvendra Chahal is leading the charts with 26 wickets in 14 matches at an average of 16.63. He has conceded runs at an economy rate of 7.67. Coming a close second is Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Wanindu Hasaranga. In 14 games, he has picked up 24 wickets and has conceded runs at an economy rate of 7.38.

He reasoned: “Chahal and Hasaranga will together take more than 3 wickets. It is a big ground in Ahmedabad, there are chances of getting wickets here with leg spin, there is a possibility.”

The reputed commentator concluded by predicting an RCB win in the battle of the Royals.

Aakash Chopra observed: “I am going with a Royal win, it is easy na. I don’t do an easy job at all. I am going with Royal Challengers Bangalore to win even though I feel that a team that has done well continuously and finished second in the league phase does not go out that easily. But I am still going with RCB to win this one.”

RCB and RR split the two league phase matches between the two sides. While RCB won their first match by four wickets, RR prevailed by 29 runs in their next clash.

IPL 2022: Aakash Chopra Hails David Miller For His Match-winning Knock Against Rajasthan Royals

Aakash Chopra has lauded David Miller for playing a match-winning knock in the IPL 2022 Qualifier 1 encounter between the Gujarat Titans (GT) and the Rajasthan Royals (RR).

David Miller smoked an unbeaten 68 off just 38 balls to help the Titans chase down a 189-run target with seven wickets and three deliveries to spare. The win took Hardik Pandya’s side to the all-important title decider, where they will await the winners of Qualifier 2.

Aakash Chopra Picked Outstanding David Miller’s Knock Of 68 As Game Defining Performance In Qualifier 1

While reviewing the GT-RR clash in a video shared on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra picked David Miller’s knock as a game-defining performance. Playing at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata in Qualifier 1 between Gujarat and Rajasthan, David Miller hit three sixes in the first three balls of the last over to take GT over the line, in what turned out to be a tense game in the IPL playoffs.

Needing 16 off 6 balls, David Miller (68* off 38) completed the chase in style, smacking three successive sixes off Prasidh Krishna in the final over. Debutant Gujarat Titans stormed into their maiden IPL final with this comprehensive 7-wicket victory over Rajasthan Royals.

On a track that was two-paced, Rajasthan Royals rode on opener Jos Buttler’s 56-ball-89 to post 188 for six in 20 overs, which seemed like a winning total considering the pressure of the occasion. But Hardik Pandya (40 no off 27 balls) and David Miller (68 off 38 balls) added 101 runs in exactly 10 overs to seal the deal with three balls to spare.

He reasoned: “Killer Miller was absolutely outstanding. He made 68 runs off just 38 balls, with three fours and five sixes. I have chosen David Miller because it was a precarious situation, when he came to bat the score was 85/3 and the tenth over was in progress. They still needed 100 runs and only 10 overs were left.”

The former Indian batter highlighted that David Miller started cautiously and neutralized the threat of Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal.

Aakash Chopra observed: “He also started a little slowly. Hardik Pandya was taking a little time at the other end. We anyway say that Rajasthan’s bowling is very good, so you take your time and play carefully, you feel that Ravichandran Ashwin or Yuzi (Chahal) might get you out but nothing like that happened.”

David Miller scored just 10 runs off the first 14 deliveries he faced. He then smashed 58 off the next 24 balls once he had gotten his eye in.

Aakash Chopra: David Miller Was Absolutely Stellar

Aakash Chopra pointed out that David Miller’s belligerent knock allowed Hardik Pandya to play more sedately at the other end.

He explained: “David Miller was absolutely stellar, so much stellar that he told Hardik Pandya to take his time, he (Pandya) was hitting at the start, not to take tension and that he will manage everything. Everything was in the arc, it was going out of the park.”

The reputed commentator concluded by praising David Miller for delivering the goods in a crunch encounter.

Aakash Chopra elaborated: “He was also the Player of the Match. The way he played, he didn’t crumble but shone under pressure. When you have run chases under pressure, especially qualifiers or knockout games, these are the kind of games where quality comes to the fore and that quality was seen.”

David Miller and Hardik Pandya strung together an unbroken 106-run partnership for the fourth wicket. While the Gujarat Titans skipper was the early aggressor, he was more content to play second fiddle once the Proteas big-hitter started taking the attack to the RR bowlers.

The Gujarat Titans required 104 runs off 63 balls when David Miller joined Hardik Pandya in the center. The pair remained unseparated until the end as the Gujarat Titans pursued down the 189-run target effortlessly.
